Once again, Panama, home of the narrow land bridge that connects North and South America, could play an outsized role in mammal history.
Mammals from both continents crossed the Panamanian Isthmus when it arose 3 to 4 million years ago, an event known as the Great American Biotic Exchange. Camera trap research shows that history may be repeating itself as North American coyotes and South American crab-eating foxes have been detected in eastern Panama. It's the first time these canids, both members of the dog family, have been found in the same landscape.
"We may be seeing the start of the Not-So-Great American Biotic Exchange," says Roland Kays, wildlife biologist at North Carolina State University and corresponding author of a paper about the research in the Journal of Mammalogy.

I can easily understand my ancester's admiration for the Wiley E. Coyote, Super Genius.(Native American Blackfeet)
I can also understand the rancher's/farmer's hostility towards this opportunistic predator given Wiley's track record.
Never bet against the coyote, unless you have him in your sights...then, it's still a crapshoot.

It may have been this podcast, I can't recall and don't have time to relisten, but Steven Rinella interviewed Dan Flores on a couple of his books, including Coyote America: https://www.themeateater.com/listen/meateater/episode-033 [themeateater.com] Coyotes keep expanding despite all efforts to eradicate them -- one factoid I recall is that coyotes can switch back and forth between pack and lone hunting and this adaptability is one of the reasons they are hard to control.

sounds like a pretty good party actually, at least better than most of the ones I have been to recently.
Or the republican party.
