The mayor was accused of sexual misconduct and pretty obviously committed suicide. The mayor was supposedly a pro feminist, champion of women's rights, who very likely said one thing and acted in quite a different manner. The MSI CEO, who knows, but I wouldn't rule out anything at this point.

Park Won-soon's daughter reportedly told police he had left a message before leaving the house, leading her to raise the alarm.

His body was found at Mount Bugak in northern Seoul, near where his phone signal was last detected.

No cause of death has been officially recorded.

But police said they were investigating the case as a suicide.

A note was released that was left by Mr Park in his office. It read: "I apologise to everyone. I thank everyone who was with me in my lifetime. I am so sorry to my family, to whom I have only caused pain. Please cremate my body and scatter the ashes at my parents' grave. Goodbye everyone."

It is reported that a female employee had filed a sexual harassment claim against the 64-year-old on Wednesday, the day before he went missing, thought there has been no official confirmation of the complaint.

Don't want to, ah, jump to any conclusions on this. I find it strange that someone who made it big in life would suicide.

And yet, many East Asian cultures do have a tradition of suicide, to expiate the shame of a huge failure or crime, or as a tactic of desperation. There's the Japanese banzai attacks and Kamikaze fighter pilots, sepukku, and all the other "Death Before Dishonor" stuff: https://youtu.be/O0i2oeoGkEc?t=3319 [youtu.be]

I might have been a little more skeptical, if he was younger and/or hadn't left a "will like" message for his daughter.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Park’s daughter filed a police report at around 5:15 p.m. that he “had left home four to five hours ago after leaving words like a will, with his phone currently off.”
