Mask company makes custom coverings that look like your face:

With travel companies and countries around the world finally coming down on the side of mandatory facial coverings in public, many feel anxious that surgical masks eroding their individuality. Fortunately one artist turned-accidental-entrepreneur has come up with a solution to social hygiene that is as idiosyncratic as you are.

Unsurprisingly these custom 'Face ID Masks' began as a practical joke. With surgical masks printed to order from selfie photos, the company began taking orders on the website "Resting Risk Face.com" in June.

Using user submitted photos the company makes facial coverings that match your features and skin tone – with the pledge to make the wearer "more easily recognisable during viral pandemics."

The result is uncanny. Apparently the coverings are convincing enough to "unlock devices" using facial recognition.

For artist Danielle Baskin the project had started "just for fun".

Well, I guess then in your view, if you hire a killer, then you are also not responsible for the resulting death, because after all, you didn't kill yourself, and the killer could just have refused to kill.

It's quite simple: If your actions cause people to die that would not have died if you had acted differently, then you are responsible for the death of those people.

Due to the ineptitude of certain politicians I came to realize that coronavirus is going to be around for a while. I stopped buying surgical masks (the simple ones, not n95,) and I just recently bought 2 cloth masks.

Disclaimer... I am not a paid promoter of the mask in question and I actually did buy one last week on ebay. (and actually wore it for the first time yesterday.)
And pardon my choice of words... ineptitude really is not the proper word. Both the president, and governor Kemp (I currently am in Georgia) are not just inept, but are actually causing irreparable harm to the public health by denying the facts and utilizing their own political agenda instead of safeguarding the lives of the people. (and it is not just those two politicians either.)

While self knowledge is a laudable goal it is hardly the answer.

With soylentists being a group that has a high proportion of members in the information technology sector many of them should understand the amount of time involved in just doing their job... and then the corresponding large amount of time learning about new features and ways of doing thing... essentially learning even more about their job which usually includes a lot of time outside of work hours.

Having the time to learn about all the diseases is a luxury that many of us (and people in general) do not have the time to do ourselves. Even if we did have the time, few of us would ever attain the knowledge in the field that experts (like Fauci) gain. And while Covid-19 is probably the most important disease in most people's lives right now, the experts still need to watch out for the next major disease that may become a pandemic. When it shows up is everyone expected to stop everything they do now and learn about it?

There are reasons why I go and see a doctor... to learn about what is happening to me at that moment. A medical professional is expected to learn about a multitude of conditions and impart the relevant knowledge to me when it is appropriate. The doctors are also expected to have enough knowledge to determine the correct cause. It isn't always the case that they know, especially in some rare conditions, but it is expected for them to find out or refer us to a specialist with even more knowledge. (In a similar matter, IT professionals are expected to diagnose what is wrong with a computer system or program and also plan to resolve the issue... without the end user needing to have the years of knowledge and experience that we have.)

While I would like to learn specifics about Covid-19 and any future pandemic causing disease there is just no way it will happen, let alone everyone in the world with the need to know about it spending the time to individually research the problems. That is why we have scientists that specialize in diseases. So that there are people with the necessary knowledge to spread the correct information to the masses if the need ever arises. (like it has now.) That is why we turn to expert advice, and why we need it to be truthfull.

And let me make a final relevant point... We elect our politicians with the expectations that they represent us. Not the special interests of the people with the money used to finance their campaigns. Not even to use their position for their own personal gain. It is their responsibility that factual data is imparted to us in a timely manner as needed. Not a false narrative designed to make them look better personally. Not to be missing in action when their duties need to be performed. The current administration has failed completely and spectacularly and they need to be held accountable for their (in)action. (And yes, I know that on the first 2 points many politicians fail there regardless of the D/R/I after their name. But the last few points are truly horrible and I do not think I need to specify the people I am referring to.)
