China says Mars probe stable; no word on reusable spacecraft:

China's Mars probe Tianwen-1, which blasted into space in July, is now more than 15 million kilometers (9 million miles) from Earth en route to the red planet, the National Space Administration said Saturday.

The administration said that Tianwen-1 was in stable condition, having completed its first mid-course orbital correction early last month. It will be about 195 million kilometers (118 million miles) from Earth when it arrives at Mars around February, having traveled 470 million kilometers (292 million miles) in all to get there.

[...] The spacecraft consists of an orbiter, a lander and a rover, and marks China's most ambitious Mars mission yet as it seeks to join the United States in successfully landing a spacecraft on the planet. It was blasted into space aboard a Long March-5 on July 23 during a month when the United Arab Emirates and the U.S. also took advantage of a shortened distance between the planets to launch similar missions.

hell yeah they did. they did such a good job, they collected the data before the launch!

I kid of course. They did once mistakenly broadcast the successful launch of a space vehicle, including chatter between mission control and the astronauts, an hour before the launch.

So, it's nice they have some cool news for it. It has a 50-50 chance of being true or not, so best thing to do is pretend their data and anything they say is bogus, and just keep doing what we're doing.

i'll give you one that's real: let's not forget the US government bribed private doctors to inject over 2000 unknowing people with plutonium. just to see what would happen. and that my friends, is not a conspiracy. This shit went on till the mid 70s. It's something for which Clinton apologized on behalf of the government, after the experiments were declassified.

The chinese can suck my dick - fuck them. Including my chinese wife, who is still chinese because to get citizenship, even after being here forever and after finishing her mba in iowa, she'd have to give up the chinese one, and enjoy getting a visa to the place where she was born.

of course, being from the ussr, despite moving to the states, where most of my extended family was, as a tiny child, and not learning russian till well into my mid 20s, I need a visa to go the the place I was born too. The multivisa and required invite cost $900/year, and your passport is with the russian embassy in nyc - for a month, then they mail it back w/ the visa. I overstayed by 5 days once because of a bad eye infection - as in fever, couldn't open either eye. Had a note from the clinic and everything. They wouldn't let me leave till multiple visits and about 100 hours hopping between departments, eventually going in front of a judge who fined me $300 and deported me. Blocked my entry back for 5 years. And I said - "but I was born 2 blocks away from here and went to school 3 blocks from here." She had a good laugh and told be I was thankful I didn't spend the month wait time in a russian jail with the rest of the illegals. I used to spend about 150k/year over there, was there for 4 years and had an office with 12 people working for me. I fired everyone, left, and never came back. that was a long time ago. What I remember best is walking up to any girl anywhere, and saying "I'm going to - wanna come with?" - and them always coming with, and me always fucking them within a week, and their friends within two weeks, with zero effort. and that's all that country is good for. /rant

But that is the entire point of these activities and the sudden interest: staking claims offworld so the pilfering can go on. And not just that, but so that you'll still be chafing under their bootheels and stern gaze no matter where you try and flee to.

        > China Says Mars Probe Stable

At least the Martians are now probing the animals in the stable rather than the humans. Why they are targeting China is anyone's guess.
