Factory mix-up spoils 15 million doses of J&J COVID vaccine:

About 15 million doses of Johnson & Johnson's one-shot COVID-19 vaccine were ruined, and future vaccine shipments will be delayed. This all follows a mix-up at a manufacturing facility in Baltimore, according to multiple media reports.

Johnson & Johnson had partnered with Emergent BioSolutions to manufacture the active ingredient of its vaccine. But according to two US officials who spoke with Politico, workers at the West Baltimore facility mixed up the ingredients in Johnson & Johnson's vaccine with those for a different coronavirus vaccine. Emergent BioSolutions is also a manufacturing partner of AstraZeneca, according to The New York Times, which first reported the problem.

In the interest of full disclosure, after noticing "Bill Gates" and "vaccine nanochip", just dig into the recesses of everything Microsoft has foisted on the computing industry through the years and the responses pretty much write themselves.

So, do recall the punctuated (to be charitable about it) events they provided us through our careers, go in with an attitude that Bill Gates shouldn't walk away from that legacy scot-free, and start your search engines, folks. It's the least we can do for him.

I for one always knew that something would be horribly wrong with some of the vaccines, and that the rollout would be about as smooth as a popcorn ceiling and twice as flaky, and that it would be an effective deterrent from people (especially fruitcakes) getting the vaccine, and that as a result, we can't have nice things and EBOLAIDS will haunt us for a long time to come.

          Yup. Exactly.

And the part that far too many folks don't get is that it is impossible to stick 300 million people without some things going horribly wrong, just by pure random chance.

Stick 300 million people and some random number of them will die shortly thereafter. Another random number will have X Y or Z issue occur. All without any of those outcomes having been the shot's fault at all. The hard part about this is separating the "things that occurred because of the shot" from "things that occurred because of random chance, and would have occurred even without the shot".

We want to know the "because of" occurrences. But the news will report on all the random happenstance occurrences, and what will the public think they believe, why, that which they have been told by the news to believe.

When 300 million people are inoculated with a vaccine and then thirty people develop rare brain clots that normally only happens to one in a hundred thousand people (that's so small to be almost zero likelihood) then you have to ask yourself if it's pure random chance or something else. Like the vaccine.

That headline initially made me think that COVID was flaring up, and causing serious problems. Apparently, not so.

COVID is maybe contributing to a systemic problem caused by lack of infrastructure, and lack of personnel. It has apparently taken years of failure to plan ahead for things to come to a head.

College of Emergency Nurses chair Sue Stebbings said the crisis point had been building for years.

Mention is made of some wards, newly built, that stand empty, because they don't have the staff to put in those wards. There is also mention of a need to streamline the importation of doctors from other nations.

Huge fiasco, not directly related to COVID.

Not if their measures are border controls with quarantine (which they are) and the covid is exogenous (which it is), while the flu is endogenous (which it is).

The prophylactic measures that could be used would indeed be useful, but they've solved the problem by not letting the disease get into the community in the first place, rather than slowing down its spread within the community.

Company involved in 15 million discarded doses of J&J vaccine has history of quality control violations

One of the companies producing the J&J vaccine has a history of quality control violations, AP reported.
Emergent Biosolutions was cited by the FDA on quality control issues, including mold and cracked vials.
The company is at the center of the mix-up that led to 15 million discarded doses of the vaccine on Wednesday.

The company at the center of the mix-up that led to roughly 15 million discarded doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has a history of quality control violations, the Associated Press reported.

A manufacturing plant in Baltimore under Emergent Biosolutions, one of eight companies producing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, spoiled a batch of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, delaying production and halting future shipments, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

The mishap was due to human error, according to The Times, when workers at the plant mixed up the vaccine ingredients. The Food and Drug Administration is currently investigating the incident.
