https://arstechnica.com/science/2022/04/doctors-fish-out-more-than-a-dozen-tiny-maggots-from-mans-eye/

On Wednesday, doctors in France reported a rare case of tiny sheep bot fly larvae—aka maggots—infesting the outer surface of a man's eyeball.

The small, spiky larvae were seen slithering around the man's peeper, which explained the redness and itchiness he was experiencing. Doctors counted more than a dozen of the disturbing grub-like critters outside the eyeball and surrounding tissue. Doctors had no choice but to pluck the bloodsuckers out, one by one, using forceps. The doctors also prescribed topical antibiotic treatments in case they missed any bugs
[...]
Regarding the case in France, published Wednesday in The New England Journal of Medicine, the man was lucky. The infestation was only external ophthalmomyiasis, meaning the larvae didn't get inside his eyeball.

Don't believe that aristarchus was ever on the Green Site. Maybe someone has retro-registered the username there now, since he is so popular here. But, no, I meant we had submissions on science, art, morality, philosophy, the deep and weighty issues of our time. Not eye-maggots and Trump MAGAots.

Great. You're using de-humanizing language for the people who disagree with you. Now you can proceed to shoving them into ovens.

Congratulations. You have become the fascism you have been warning everyone about.

...treatments in case they missed any bugs" Wait what?
Just spread shit there then cause that will have the same effectiveness IF they missed any.

You have two choices with Bot fly.
    Wait 2 weeks till egress.
    Or surgical removal.
Any remaining will not be killed using antibiotics...cause they know they are not bacteria right?

But hey they are doctors, so they must know what they are doing?
I have to believe therefore this is an epic editor fail.

The title was off-putting but I read the article anyway because of a tiny hope that somehow the maggots might have been beneficial. That is, during WWI, I think it was, they discovered that leaving maggots in wounds helped because the creatures ate necrotic tissue and left healthy tissue alone.

But, nope. This was just gross.

The word you were looking for was leeches as leaches is the act of leaching. Which is what leeches do.

No, Phoenix666 is right. Maggots, for removing dead flesh. Leeches remove blood, like the good old conservative practice of blood-letting. And, Phoenix is wrong. Medical use of maggots far pre-dates WWI. He is also wrong that there is any medical use for MAGAts, other than selling them horse de-wormer. Too bad that he will have to be sent to the sanitorium, due to his double Trump voting problem.
