Driverless car appears to flee the scene after being pulled over by cops:

A video showing a driverless car being stopped by the police and then attempting to drive away went viral over the weekend. San Francisco police stopped one of Cruise's autonomous Chevrolet Bolt EVs, likely because the car's headlights were not on despite it being night. In the video, first posted to Instagram on April 2, an officer can be heard saying, "There's nobody in it."

But a few seconds later, after the officer walks back to his police car, the autonomous vehicle—perhaps deciding that the traffic stop was over—tries to drive away before pulling over to a stop a few hundred feet away.

Cruise says that the car wasn't trying to make a run for it. The vehicle first yielded to the police vehicle, then pulled over to a safe spot for the actual traffic stop, the company says. One of the police officers contacted Cruise to inform it of the situation, and the driverless car did not receive a ticket. Cruise says it has fixed whatever caused the car to drive without its headlights at night.

Young black male sitting in the self driving car. The results will depend on the city of course. If he doesn't die in a fusillade of bullets, he's sho 'nuff goin to jail! You can shuffle around the blackness - young male all alone, young male with a bevy of offspring, young male with a girl, young female alone, young female with children. You can amuse yourself with the parameters for awhile, I imagine.

We're not far away from robot traffic stops, in which software and algorithms decide to pull you over based on perceived infractions. Then you've got robot cops stopping robot cars for the purpose of applying human rules to ... something. Not good.

This is not the utopia we were promised. In fact, it might not exist.

Software designers will implement algorithms that automatically slow driverless vehicles under certain conditions etc. ...bugs in the software will permit exploitation of the algorithms etc ...

Not sure if we're headed toward Bladerunner or Hunger Games in the next hundred years. Maybe Cormac McCarthy's The Road. In any case, time for robot cars to smarten up.

If someone sold you a story of technological Utopia, demand your money back. Good example. I fully expect Musk's stupid Mars Colony to be a billionaire's invite-only club. Starting a new society without all the hassle and struggle of poor people. Except wait, turns out we need poor people to build our structures and infrastructure. Haven't puzzled out the details of that one yet.

Huxley's Brave New World always seemed a very plausible reality, though over the past few years the Orwell vision has been somewhat present as well.

Very depressing to see billionaires focused not on fixing problems but on blasting off and avoiding them entirely. I fully hope to be on the launchpad to sabotage their shit and watch their phallic spaceships combust on liftoff.

Software developers have an important role to play in the future we are building. The fact that so many seem to be focused primarily on personal enrichment doesn't fill me with hope. And don't even get me started on Bitcoin.

No one is going to avoid societal problems, no matter how fast or how far they run. The only way to cure human problems, is to eliminate humans. All those utopian dreams are doomed to failure. The moment two or more people enter the picture, the dream is dead. If you want to know how the future will be, read history. Every crime, every atrocity, that man has ever committed will be repeated again in the future, likely on even grander scales.
