It is no secret that the ecological health of the planet is under serious threat. Scientists have previously identified invasive species, drought and an altered nitrogen cycle, driven in part by the widespread use of synthetic fertilizers, as among the most serious planetary challenges, with global climate change topping the list. Many have assumed that climate change would consistently amplify the negative effects of invasives -- but, until now, there was no research to test that assumption.

"There were a number of cases where the interactions made everything worse at the local scale, which is what we expected to see, but only about 25% of the time. The majority of the time, invasions and environmental change together didn't make each other worse. Instead, the combined effects weren't all that much more than the impact of invasive species alone."
"What is so important about our findings," says Allen, "is that they highlight the critical importance of managing invasive species at the local scale." And the local scale is precisely the scale at which effective and swift action is most likely to happen.

There's been major despeciation events over a dozen times over the last ~600M. Not that you'd notice, and truth being told, it resulted in better evolved life and a larger tree of life.
Over the next 5-10 Million years, Planet Earth will fall to total domination of Eucalypt Trees, the Daleks of the Plant Kingdom. Every Land/Sky Animal will evolve to the ecology that Gum Trees put in place.

Listen you clown, it's the gringos that are invasive species in your neck of the wood - the whole of the US Southwest was Mexican territory before.
BTW, this term "invasive species" is very problematic - I mean, what isn't an "invasive species," including us monkey humanoids? I mean there are still debates as to whether the organic compounds that started life on earth was dropped down from the space or not.

Europeans are the the invasive species. British, Irish and Scots people taking over North America; Spanish and Portuguese taking over Central and South America.
If North America is being flooded with people from the South, what reason do you have to complain? Give the land back to the native populations, go back to Europe and then complain.

So I should quit posting when I've been drinking.
But it's so much fun seeing if drunk me gets modded Interesting, Insightful, Offtopic, or Troll. Because I seem to run 3/4 the first 2, and 1/16 the bottom two, with the rest being ignored.
Not saying all my posts are drunk me, just the ones that seem to get modded the most.
So, howzabout that brown horde coming up from Central America? We gonna hope the Mexican's grab them and send them home? We gonna hope they wear out halfway up?
