'Urgent' action needed in Europe over monkeypox spread: WHO:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for 'urgent' action to prevent the spread of monkeypox in Europe, noting that cases had tripled there over the past two weeks.
To date, more than 5,000 monkeypox cases have been reported from 51 countries worldwide, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Infections in Europe represent about 90 percent of the global total of cases, and 31 countries in the European region have now identified cases, WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr Hans Henri Kluge said on Friday.
"Today, I am intensifying my call for governments and civil society to scale up efforts ... to prevent monkeypox from establishing itself across a growing geographical area," Kluge said in a statement.
[...] Kluge also said in his statement that there are no reported deaths from the current outbreak so far.
[...] The UN agency estimates that the disease can be fatal, but smallpox vaccines are protective and some antiviral drugs are also being developed.
To date, there have been about 1,800 suspected monkeypox cases including more than 70 deaths in Africa. Vaccines have never been used to stop monkeypox outbreaks in Africa. The WHO's Africa office said this week that countries with vaccine supplies "are mainly reserving them for their own populations".

Sorry, but I believe you are wrongly generalizing. This particular epidemic was started by "gay sex", but it spreads where people get close enough to share bodily fluids. Kissing will work. If the particular individual infected is gay, then it's gay kissing, if they're straight, then it's straight kissing. If a parent has it, then it's parental kissing. It's the exchange of bodily fluids. The motivation behind the exchange is irrelevant. (IIRC there was a report from prior decades about a case being spread by wrestling among folks who weren't even friends.)

Monkeypox spreads primarily through direct contact with the sores, their secretions, scabs, and resulting fomites. Respiratory secretions, saliva and blood are considered to be less common routes of infection and other modes of infection, including feces and sexual fluids have not been confirmed. Not that it really matters because their are plenty of ways to get it during any of those acts, including just touching their clothing or grazing the skin when you dance to contacting the saliva or bed linens.
Infections like this may be currently constrained to gay men, mostly because it depends on superspreaders. Calling it a "gay disease" like AIDS is dangerous for a couple reasons. The least obvious one is that people who get it may not consider themselves gay. And the most obvious one is that it can quickly spread through the rest of the population as soon as it crosses to a "non-gay" superspreader. Regardless, you should always take basic precautions because there are plenty of diseases worse than Monkeypox out there just waiting for the right opportunity.

Which population do you mean? AIDS was never a problem for most of us. It was only homosexual men (not all of them, but a significant portion of them) who spread AIDS, and that was due to their very risky behavior. AIDS is not easy to get, you have to really work at it. Large numbers of gay men really worked at it.

Gay men are pretty much the only group that behaves that way. A "regular guy" (i.e. heterosexual) isn't going to have the opportunity. But gay men (not all, but many) spend their time hanging out in places like public washrooms and behind the bushes at parks, just waiting for random, anonymous men to join them for sex.
Again, AIDS and now monkey pox aren't necessarily gay diseases, but they act like it because of the abhorrent behavior of a significant part of the male homosexual community.

Back when I was born, my grandma almost became a criminal. She punched an official because he told her that I won't be vaccinated against smallpox and she should stop making a scene there.

Checking on this, 1971 was the start of the end of routine smallpox vaccination, in the US. I doubt smallpox vaccination was stopped all at once across the US, might have continued in pockets here and there for years. By 1980, smallpox vaccination may no longer have been done anywhere in the US. In 1979, smallpox was eradicated, and by 1984, only 2 labs still had samples. there having been a few cases of smallpox arising from improper handling of samples in other labs.
For those who did receive vaccination against smallpox, it's thought that the protection may fade away to nothing in approximately 30 years. Maybe no one is safe from monkeypox.

The conspiracy theorists are already all over this, but there are a couple of them that bump up against what you said. One claim going around is that this is smallpox as a result of Russia/USA purposefully/accidentally releasing smallpox. The reasons for doing so are all over the place, as would be expected, but all of these are missing something important. Smallpox and Monkeypox actually do present differently, have different courses, can be told apart with advanced testing techniques, and treated better with modern medicine. Even if whatever worse case you can imagine involving smallpox is true, we are much better off than we were even 50 years ago.

No. 50 years ago more people were already vaccinated against smallpox. (That's probably why [i.e., the cross-immunity] we haven't heard much about monkeypox before now.)

You mean you haven't heard of Monkeypox before now. There isn't anything magically different from this year compared to last year. To be blunt, the news only cares because they want the next COVID to boost ratings and this is now infecting large numbers of people in Europe and America.

More damage was done to the world and human freedom under the license of coronavirus than anything else in recent memory. Everyone rolled right over and gave up everything their forebears fought and died for over a couple of centuries because coronavirus.
So why wouldn't the perfidious be keen to run the same scam again?

The war on terrorism was bad, but coronavirus brought wholesale suspension of all basic freedoms for citizens around the world. Countries like Australia built internment camps for its citizens who were suspected of carrying coronavirus.
Climate change doesn't measure up at all.

So what? Covid killed over 6 million people and as of present has resulted in over half a billion reported infections (some may be multiple infections). It would have impair basic freedoms for citizens around the world no matter what we did. The other two have resulted in similar scale impairment of basic freedoms without a corresponding threat to justify that impairment.

Those last 2 years were the BEST in my life. The BEST! And I have to thank to the morons who didn't get vaccinated and kept the disease rolling. I can sit at home and work from here instead of having to go to an office with ... humans. I don't have to leave my house more than absolutely, minimally necessary. Yes, people have to die for it, but what kinda helps my conscience here is that it's mostly the conspiracy nutters. And I can well live without them.
