F.D.A. Warning on NyQuil Chicken Alerts Many to Existence of NyQuil Chicken

Cooking poultry in cold medicine is a bad, dangerous idea that few people seemed to be aware of until the government warning attracted media coverage.

[...] In recent weeks, some people on TikTok, Twitter and other sites discovered years-old videos and images of people pouring blue-green NyQuil, a nighttime cold medicine, over chicken breasts in a pan or pot. It was, to be clear, a dangerous idea that no one should do — it could lead to consuming unsafe levels of the product, and over-the-counter medicines should be used only as directed.

But it was not clear if people were actually trying it themselves in significant numbers; most people commenting were expressing horror at the concept or making jokes about it. There have been no reports of hospitalizations or deaths related to NyQuil chicken, a tongue-in-cheek recipe that first surfaced in the notorious 4chan forum in 2017 and also received a spike of attention in January.

Still, the new flurry of interest in recent weeks caught the attention of the Food and Drug Administration, which issued a straight-faced notice on Sept. 15 advising against participating in what it called "a recent social media video challenge."

"The challenge sounds silly and unappetizing — and it is," the agency warned. "But it could also be very unsafe."

In fairness, tTat's hardly a valid argument: if hospitals only treated people who had health problems despite leading exemplarily healthy and safe lives, hardly anybody would receive treatment. Every obese person, smoker, skydiving enthusiast or fast car owner would be turned away on the basis that what they do isn't rational from a self-preservation standpoint and they shouldn't burden the health care system with the consequences of their life choices.

But in the case of the Nyquil chicken recipe, it takes a particularly profound level of nincompoopness to even think "Hey I read that on the internet and I'm gonna try it too", let alone eat it.

After all of the misinformation about Covid and vaccines, I must agree with you. Let them Darwin themselves. No point endlessly arguing with them about facts, medicine or science.

Nevermind that a single dose of liquid NyQuil has 650 mg of acetaminophen. Drink it all down!

Feel free to lie, if it suits your propaganda agenda, but... with 3 boosters, 5 jabs total, have you avoided getting unpleasantly sick with COVID?

Personally, I am pretty well convinced that I got Omicron, but when I tested ~40 hours after first symptoms, the nasal swipe came back negative, and after that I felt like such crap I didn't bother to test again, being so close to the end of the Paxlovid window.

I tested positive on the test at home. I went to a walk-in place to find out whether it is worth getting Paxlovid and they tested me there, and i was negative. The problem comes when the "challenge" as presented somehow appeals to a segment of the population, like eating laundry soap pods that happen to look like colorful candy...

While you might think we are better off without the sort of people who might find the idea of NyQuil chicken appealing or at least intriguing, and I would tend to agree I think for most of them, you might also be surprised at some of the people who turn up sick as a result...
