https://blog.jgc.org/2024/06/two-ways-to-use-led-as-light-sensor.html

I needed to log when a light switched on and off during the night as part of debugging an oddly behaving movement sensor. To do that I built a really simple light sensor logger using an Arduino Leonardo, a large LED and a resistor or three.

I agree. That said I'm still wondering if this solved the initial problem of debugging the oddly behaving movement sensor or not.

Check for cats, skunks, raccoons, and possums. Occasionally a coyote or lost dog.

They trip mine off all the time. I've watched an go over and trip my neighbors setup after they've tripped mine.

Oh yes...it's getting hotter at night now, and as ambient approaches our body temperature, we get harder and harder for thermal sensors to sense us against a background of similar temperature.

It's AGC ( Automatic Gain Control ) might be compensating making it more susceptible to false positives.
