Armed police respond to serious incidents at London Bridge and Borough Market – with members of the public urged to reach areas of safety.

Since late yesterday evening [Saturday, 3 June], the Metropolitan Police Service has been responding to incidents in the London Bridge and Borough Market areas of south London. We are treating this as a terrorist incident and a full investigation is already underway, led by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.

[...] Six people have been killed in terror attacks on London Bridge and at Borough Market.
Three male suspects have been shot dead by police.
Canisters seen around the body of at least one of the suspects have been “established to be hoaxes”, police said.
Police believe all of those directly responsible for the attack have been killed.

[...] Since March there has been the Westminster attack by Khalid Masood, who mowed down pedestrians near parliament and stabbed a policeman, resulting in six deaths, including his own: and the Manchester bombing two weeks ago that killed 22. And now London again.

[...] An editor in the Sun’s London Bridge Street office says police confirmed that a number of blasts heard [...] were controlled explosions.

An investigation into the foreign funding of extremist Islamist groups may never be published, the Home Office has admitted.

The inquiry commissioned by David Cameron, was launched as part of a deal with the Liberal Democrats in December 2015, in exchange for the party supporting the extension of British airstrikes against Isis into Syria.

But although it was due to be published in the spring of 2016, it has not been completed and may never be made public due to its "sensitive" contents.

It is thought to focus on Saudi Arabia, which the UK recently approved £3.5bn worth of arms export licences to.

Remind us again, for those who haven't been watching, which party is receptive of a Manhattan/Apollo scale project to eliminate our reliance on fossil fuels? Which party stokes the fires of coal? Which party wants more leaky oil pipelines?

The Republican Party is a terrorist organization working on behalf of a few thousand wealthy individuals and they are destroying our future for short-term profits. If you enable them because of orthogonal social issues then you are also to blame.

The death cult of Islam and its Christian equivalent which is equally misogynistic, must be isolated and defeated. We can start by stopping purchase of the only thing of value they have; oil.

Obama and the Democrats were every bit as involved in stuff like drone attacks as Republicans. And they all use just as many fossil fuels as Republicans, too.

Your post is the sort of knee-jerk clueless partisan bullshit that makes me laugh when I hear some idiot spewing similar stuff. It's seriously inaccurate, and because it makes the false and inaccurate claim that only one political party is to blame, this line of "reasoning" acts to perpetuate the mess continuing. Those who know
better understand that in the US it is the SYSTEM which is broken and that there is no significant difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Democrats or Republican.... the system "owns" both, and trot them out before us each election to give us the illusion we have a choice.

Another reason is to get us into blaming ourselves for placing the wrong one into power.

They are very artful in inciting fractures in the populace concerning things like abortion or gay rights, while they deal with much bigger things behind our back. How many of US got to vote on the DMCA, for instance? Nah, we get to bicker over who gets to use which toilet.

This game is rigged. No matter what we do, its our fault.

This whole mess is a result of one thing. Organization. Most of us rank-and-file working sheep-to-be-sheared are too busy with the day-to-day matters of life to concern ourselves much with politics. Whereas for the elite, politics *is* their job, and they are highly organized. About the most organization I have seen amongst the common people are churches. Churches are hardly organized for politics... they seem mostly concerned with collecting sheep who will line up for a shearing. While the government reciprocates by allowing them tax-free status to keep the populace praying for God to do it instead of taking matters into their own hands.

The elite also have the power ( that we let them have by not standing up to them when they started doing it ) to spend money they don't have by allowing the government to borrow money ( aka "extend the debt ceiling ) to pay for armed people to enforce their wishlist. Have this deemed "lawful" if the government does this to the populace, yet deemed "treason" if the populace does it.

It takes a truly impressive level of mental compartmentalization to write those two sentences in sequence.

Yes the world is not black and white. And that's why the two parties are not equally bad. Both parties have their failings. But one party has driven the bus off the end of the pier while the other party is just playing in the surf.

Which party stokes the fires of coal?

Coal is dying due to economics, not politics. Trump can fellatiate the coal miners all he wants, but that is a dying industry. There is nothing Trump can do to bring back coal mining jobs, unless he decides the feds will buy coal at $x per ton. Which will never fly past congress.

The economics change when you restrict mining (can't disturb a stream), restrict coal plants (in trouble for emissions), and demand the purchase of "green" power. That sounds an awful lot like politics to me. Ditch that shit, and suddenly the economics are looking good again.

No, it won't be miner employment like the 1950s, but many miners are already gone anyway. Those who remain are getting employed again.

There are also the jobs elsewhere, even programming and IT jobs, enabled by cheaper electricity. The economy generally benefits from cheap energy.

Guys, the agenda is always split in two (or more) and each party gets its slice. Party getting to power pushes a mixture of the agenda and some other conflicting stuff, but removes the conflicting stuff of the previous government.

What I predict (I have no crystal ball, this is what I would do if I wanted to soft coup a country) is infiltration on both high ranking government and low ranking essential services positions (water, energy distribution, roads, communication). If the strategy works, Islam, if it fizzles it is because of some neo-right organization which will have no choice but to enforce the surveillance state that has been conveniently planned even before the crisis started. If the thesis and antithesis generate a synthesis, a new society banning all religious expression will be pushed on us, politically. Culturally this is already the case.

No matter what happens, the result is the end of the Christian-peppered pseudo-democracy that we enjoyed in the past, which probably ran its course, and did its share of damage BTW.

Way outs? Everything is about control. What you left the system control, will be used to further remove control from you. Focus on the amount of control you have and you miss, and don't care about politics and parties and flags.

      .

The thing an intelligent person ( not you, obviously ) may want to consider is what exactly MOTIVATES these people who do these awful things ? Are the UK and the US and their allies really innocent victims or is there more to the story. Perhaps some of these people are from countries which have been invaded by the US and its
allies. Invading countries and killing the people who live in those countries is not likely to make the people who live in the countries which were invaded feel friendly toward the invaders. I live in the US, and I can tell you that if some other country invaded the US and killed people I love, revenge would be a high priority for me.

      .

This stuff doesn't happen in a vacuum, and only a dumb shit thinks the people who do this evil shit have no reasons for doing it. Sure, the US and UK governments want their citizens to believe the US and UK are squeaky clean and utterly without blame, but the truth is that this is not the case. The US is involved in literally dozens of warlike actions around the world right now, some of which are covert and won't be featured on TV, but you had better believe that the people who live in the countries which are the recipients of hostile acts by the US and its allies are going to notice what's going on.

      .

The truth is not what governments tell you. The truth is what is actually happening. Only a fool would imagine the Islamic extremists just arbitrarily decided to
attack people in other countries. It is much more likely that the truth involves a series of events which are of the "stimulus - response" variety. In other words,
one entity does something and the other entity responds.

      .

Bottom line : violence solves nothing but does lead to more violence. And governments don't give a fuck about this because the government personnel who are
responsible for this shit are never personally at risk. Only chumps get shot, or blown up, etc. Those responsible sit in comfortable air-conditioned rooms and discuss
the evil shit they convinced others to do.

The media were a great facilitator in the rise of fascism in Europe in the '30s -- Martha Gellhorn [amazon.com] gives a vivid description of the [contents of] German newspapers, and corresponding atmosphere, of that time. That is the background against which limits of free speech (and actions, it might be added: bringing the nazi salute in public will bring you at least a fine, and might land you in jail in my own country) must be seen: lessons drawn from blood, not hypotheticals.

If you want to learn more about the dangers of "free" speech, in this context, as well as in modern times, I can recommend Victor Klemperer's Language of the Third Reich [amazon.com]. Among other things, you might learn that the "fake news" meme was used by the nazi's too:

On countless occasions during my spell as an assistant in Naples I heard people say about some newspaper or other: è pagato, it’s paid for, it lies for its client, and then on the following day these very same people who had cried pagato were absolutely convinced by some obviously bogus piece of news in the same paper. Because it was printed in such bold type, and because the other people believed it. … I also know that a part of every intellectual’s soul belongs to the people, that all my awareness of being lied to, and my critical attentiveness, are of no avail when it comes to it: at some point the printed lie will get the better of me when it attacks from all sides and is queried by fewer and fewer around me and finally by no one at all.

Wahhabism is a strict interpretation of Islam, which among other things has the dogma that non-believers ie anyone not believing in Islam should be killed. This is an interpretation that is dominant in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates. These countries finance mosques in the west and elsewhere provided they hire an Imam (priest) educated from their country to preach wahhabism. And in addition other lecturers visit that tells the congregation that the people in the west is bad and deserve to die. Guess the end result....

The political leadership in the west would put an end to this if things were normal. But guess where the oil which is important for the economy comes from. It's not far fetched to think that "allow our mosques to be built and allow 3rd world Islamist inside your country, or we will cut you oil supply!".

The muslim brotherhood are not wahhabis.
This is a summary [reddit.com] from a moderator of /r/geopolitics who has a masters degree in international relations with a focus on terrorism.

      Wahhabism

This is a form of Salafism that began in central Arabia (modern-day Saudi Arabia) in the mid-18th century. It is based on the teachings of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, a Sunni preacher who sought to return Islam to its original principles and and rejected many common Muslim practices. The movement around his teachings came to prominence because of an alliance with the Saud family and its leader, Muhammad ibn Saud; Wahhad would give religious legitimacy for Saudi expansionism and political rule, while the Saudis would adopt and support Wahhab's ideology. This pact has held for more than 300 years and today dominates in the Arabian Peninsula.

The reason that you hear often about Wahhabism is because beginning in the 1970s the Saudi government spent billions of its newfound oil wealth on promoting Wahhabism abroad through building and funding schools, mosques, and other institutions. This has resulted in many Muslims around the world adopting more conservative values than what was there prior to the 1970s.

Because Wahhabism is a regional offshoot of Salafism, it holds many of the same ideals. It embraces a puritanical form of Islam. It stresses the oneness of God (tawhid), rejects Islamic legal scholarship that does not conform to narrowly interpretations of the Quran, the sunna, and hadith, and doubt the legitimacy of interpretations that are more accepting of what they see are illegitimate practices like visiting tombs, shrines, and graves or adopting foreign dress. And it is very hostile to Shia Islam, which is views as a heretical sect.

      Muslim Brotherhood

The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) is an Islamist organization started in Egypt in 1928 by a man named Hassan al-Banna. As a man living in the city of Ismailia, Banna grew disillusioned by the role of British colonialism in Egypt and the influence that British culture was having on Egypt. He saw Islam as losing its dominance in society and viewed the West as having a corrupting influence. He created the MB as a means of counteracting this trend; it rejected Western political and social models and calls for the application of shariah and the Islamization of society. But it was more than a political organization. The MB also developed an extensive social services program; it created and funded schools, hospitals, welfare funds, and pharmacies. Most of the services were provided to areas and people that received no such services from the government. For many individuals, the social work of the MB is just as important as its political activism.

Today, the MB continues to be the oldest modern Islamist political movement in the Arab World and is also likely the most important. The group has expanded, with branches or offshoots in more than a dozen countries, and its thinkers and leaders have influenced Islamist movements and groups all over the world. Although many of these groups share similar ideals and names, they each operate independently of each other. At times over the past century, different branches engaged in terrorism and violence: Hamas (which grew out of the MB in Palestine), the MB led a bloody revolt in Syria during the 1980s that ended with the tragic siege of Hama, and the MB in Egypt engaged in terrorism for several decades before later renouncing it.

Although the Muslim Brotherhood shares some ideas with Salafists and jihadists, at their core they are very different. The MB today has largely rejected violence and many branches participate peacefully in the political process. Religiously, it accepts human interpretations of the Quran and Islamic texts and less puritanical forms of Islam. And its embraces social service an missionary work as a means of developing grassroots support and generating Islamization from the bottom up.

According to London's Muslim mayor, Sadiq Kahn:
    “no reason to be alarmed.”
“one of the safest global cities in the world if not the safest global cities in the world”
"Trump's ignorant view of Islam could make both our countries less safe. It risks alienating mainstream Muslims. London has proved him wrong"
Terrorism is... “part and parcel of living in a big city”

I don't know about you guys, but in my big city we don't have terrorists blowing stuff up because we didn't let them into the country by the millions, call them refugees, and then prevent anyone from talking about the rape gangs and bombings.

Nor is that happening in London either, no matter how hard you try to push the alt-reich line.

I included Manchester for illustrative purposes, it can happen in any city, anytime. As to "self-serving attribution", we're on day 9 of Ramadan and we currently have 510 people murdered worldwide by Islamists in 46 attacks. There was over 1500 people murdered last month and 1850 murdered during last years Ramadan. It appears this years final total will be higher. Given that most victims of worldwide Islamic terrorism are muslim, what "motives" do you attribute to people who object to such slaughter?

Muslims being killed by terrorists certainly has nothing to do with, "because we didn't let them into the country by the millions, call them refugees, and then prevent anyone from talking about the rape gangs and bombings."

The first line was something Trump took out of context from the original statement; Khan actually said that there was no reason to be alarmed by the increased police presence. The rest of the stuff you've posted has also been debunked by the same articles that debunked the "no reason to be alarmed" part. It's worth reading the whole statement - and responses by people a bit less reactionary than Trump - so you have the whole story.

I remember Trump said he had a secret plan that would destroy ISIS in 30 days. That was like 100 days ago. Why won't he tell us his secret plan?! And save London - they have lots of parks that could be converted into golf courses for billionaires.

Also ask Hilary Clinton how much money she took from the Saudi's.
