The new Dr Who has been announced....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40624288
I'll get the popcorn..

Jodie Whittaker has been announced as Doctor Who's 13th Time Lord - the first woman to get the role.

She was revealed in a trailer that was broadcast on BBC One at the end of the Wimbledon men's singles final.

The Broadchurch star succeeds Peter Capaldi, who took the role in 2013 and leaves in this year's Christmas special.

Whittaker, 35, said it was "more than an honour" to become the Doctor. She will make her debut on the sci-fi show when the Doctor regenerates in the Christmas Day show.

Here are Jodie Wittaker's entries on Wikipedia and IMDb.

Here's hoping they give her better episodes/scripts than they gave Capaldi: i kind of trailed off in watching after the whole monster of the day was....

    ...wait for it....

.....the sleep crud in the corner of the eye!

    WHAAAAAT????

I've been watching the classic Doctors, and i kind of wish they'd do longer serials, instead of finishing it up in just one or two episodes. Have fun with it (but not 'Rock and Roll Doctor' fun), get back to exploring more.

    Should be intelesting!

But i'd say about time for a change in genders: but how logical will the new Doctor be? ;)

Shall have to catch up on the newer Capaldi's and start watching the new Doctor.

The Tardis is a woman, it's why her navigation system is always broken. So you'll have a woman driver in a female vehicle, she'd better keep the shields up since every landing will be a crash landing.

Along with the new Doctor there is also a new showrunner. The last one was in the job just a little too long, I think.

to their credit, the writing was sufficiently developed that I stopped expecting the Dr to sign off with "F*ckety bye!"

Yeah... the last story did leave a slight impression of being stuffed with ideas from...

"The Girl who Waited" (assistant trapped for years in accelerated time-stream)/"Asylum of the Daleks" (What do you mean I've been turned into a Dalek/Cyberman?)/"The Time of the Doctor" (last futile stand to protect the cute kids)/"Hell Bent" (dead companion and girlfriend fly off to see the universe)

And the reboot, while it had some good story arcs in the early years, became far too concerned with mysticism and the Doctor's 'god-complex', rather than running on the combination of educating of the companion and seemingly bumbling into a series of troubles before wrapping it all up in a mission successful box at the end, leaving a trail of bodies, mutually assured enemies, and worth saving civilians in its wake.

Having skimming most of this past season, I was disappointed with their handling of Bill, the Doctor, and She-Doctor. And personally I find it tacky that *NOW* they choose to replace *THE* doctor with a woman, rather than having worked around the reincarnation dilemma by moving on to a new character on new adventures through the time-o-sphere, possibly with a different attitude and moral compass to the tired direction the Doctor has been going for over 10 years now.

Hell, even Red Dwarf has done a better job on its recent seasons and that is despite getting quite long in the tooth. At least it doesn't take itself seriously to begin with!

Haven't watched most of Capaldi but was that better or worse than the Smith one where the Wi-Fi was killing people? :P

Smith was just Tennant turned up to 11 with hand-flapping and when I realized they weren't planning to fire the entire Smith writing team for Capaldi I just kind of gave up on the show. Also the Sontaran medic and the lesbian Victorian dinosaur & co. need to die a horrible death if they haven't already.
