President Trump announced Friday night that the U.S. and its allies had launched attacks on Syria in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack last week by President Bashar Assad's regime.
In televised remarks from the White House, Trump said the attacks were underway, and that Great Britain and France were also taking part.
The president did not provide details, but U.S. warships in the Mediterranean Sea, armed with cruise missiles, were in position to strike. British and French forces were also in place.
[...] The president said the U.S. prepared to sustain effort until the Syrian regime stops using chemical weapons.
[...] In the days leading up to the U.S. attack, Russia had warned that it would defend its troops in Syria. This has raised fears of a possible direct clash of U.S. and Russian forces.

What about the many good things from killing Assad? ITs a safe bet that Trump won't start a fight then leave the job half-done, like Bush Sr. did with the Gulf War.

If you're betting more than half done, I think you could get some action on that bet. It might not turn out as safe a bet as you think, but that's your money.

Bush Sr.'s handling of GWI was a masterstroke of political statement: we came, we kicked ass, and NOBODY on our side died.
Armed service death rates during the first Iraq deployment were lower than peacetime (due to the increased discipline, and mostly reduction in deaths from drunk driving...) That was the biggest, baddest shock and awe campaign in the history of the world... PTSD and Gulf-War-Syndrome slowly tarnished the glory, but for the first 5 years or so after that invasion, it looked absolutely brilliant.
Going after Saddam later was just a sad and thinly veiled oil industry power-play.

That's not quite true. Bush made promises to the Sunni, inciting them to rise up against Saddam. Then, we left them hanging in the wind. A lot of Sunni died because we broke our promises.
