Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Champion Of Gender Equality, Dies At 87
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the demure firebrand who in her 80s became a legal, cultural and feminist icon, died Friday. The Supreme Court announced her death, saying the cause was complications from metastatic cancer of the pancreas.
The court, in a statement, said Ginsburg died at her home in Washington surrounded by family. She was 87.
"Our nation has lost a justice of historic stature," Chief Justice John Roberts said. "We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her, a tired and resolute champion of justice."
Architect of the legal fight for women's rights in the 1970s, Ginsburg subsequently served 27 years on the nation's highest court, becoming its most prominent member. Her death will inevitably set in motion what promises to be a nasty and tumultuous political battle over who will succeed her, and it thrusts the Supreme Court vacancy into the spotlight of the presidential campaign.

Well, to be fair, democrats have made a myriad of examples. Whenever there is a shooting, Dems and the media are clamoring for more gun control before the bodies have finished cooling. Never allow a good crisis to go wasted, right?

There's two or three orders of magnitude difference between your examples and the real situation. You act like a vanishingly small amount of people doing criminal things invalidates the completely legal protests. It doesn't work like that. The police are beating people down for expressing their first amendment protected freedom of speech, why aren't you angry about that? Governments have been doing that since the very first protest ever. Why aren't you furious, Mr. Real American?!

To be fair, Republicans don't care how many bodies pile up so long as they can keep buying AR-15s to shoot protesters using their free speech to call for police reform.
Is that actually a fair characterization? Not at all, but it's no more unfair than what you just posted.
Right now, Republicans can push a nominee through if they so desire. But that will fly in the face of McConnell's refusal to even hold hearings on Merrick Garland back in 2016. Republicans could act in good faith and have the intellectual honesty to follow their precedent from four years ago. They won't. This will lead to a stronger response from Democrats when power shifts, something that's likely to happen in this election. If the Democrats take control of both houses of Congress and the White House, they could finish abolishing the Senate filibuster, push through legislation to expand the Supreme Court, and push through their own judicial nominees in response. If Republicans won't do the right thing, Democrats will respond in kind when the opportunity comes.
Republicans may get a temporary advantage but it's a political blunder that will fire up Democrats. Democrats might have been inclined to move past McConnell's refusal to act on Garland's nomination in 2016. Fast tracking this nomination will ensure that doesn't happen.

What's unfair about the characterization? Glancing around, it appears to take 6 or so hours tops for the human body to cool to ambient temperature. A lot can be said in six hours, but you're not likely to understand the particulars of a given shooting for days.

Cavanaugh is finding out. You actually have to know law, and stuff, and you can't just rape and pillage your way through the Consitution as Alito, Clarence, and that dead guy, um, what the fuck? A, Albesio? No, Andorrian? Nope. See, forgot justice Scalia already, because his jurisprudence sucked. To be a good judge, you must know the law, understand the law, understand the spirit of the law, and be able to write it the way RBG could do. Conservatives are too fucking stupid to be on the Supreme Court, so usually they either stop being conservative, as several have, or the shut the fuck up like Thomas Clarence, or die in their sleep, when God calls them on all their lying, like with Antonin Scalia.
