Assange is extradited to die in the US empire.

And a lot of it is random non-sensitive junk that you'd have to be a hardcore conspiracy-theorist to even recognise - how many people will know what Bilderberg refers to, for example. Of the actual leaked stuff it all seems to be pre-2010, so nothing terribly current for today. It looks more like the contents of a file packrat's hard drive than any big revelation.

I think it's pretty well established that the Bilderberg Group exists. There seems to be a lot of speculation about, and criticism of them, of varying plausibility. If you are claiming that the group doesn't exist, well - there's reasonable skepticism and then there's just being silly.

I have no idea what a "Foo Champ" is but I'm not sure you should be so unconcerned about a meeting of very powerful people with the express intent of furthering the creation of a single world government. Even of they do have the best of intentions, self interest can be a insidious and unconscious motivator. I don't have any information, or strong opinion beyond that - also wasn't aware that meeting summaries were published - a link to these would be interesting if you have one. It did look like you were denying the existence of the group so glad you weren't being that kooky (not that I think that is impossible - maybe I have been hoodwinked by a conspiracy theory myself, and the existence of the Bilderberg Group is just a smokescreen for WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON!).

Looks like their express purpose [bilderbergmeetings.org] is:

The annual Bilderberg Meeting is designed to foster dialogue between Europe and North America. Bilderberg was established in 1954 as a forum for informal discussions, bringing together individuals who share an active interest in affairs relevant to the relationship between Europe and Northern America. The Meeting has one main goal: to foster discussion and dialogue. There is no desired outcome, there is no closing statement, there are no resolutions proposed or votes taken, and the organisation does not support any political party or viewpoint.

I was going by the following quote from Wikipedia (yes, I know):

In 2001, Denis Healey, a Bilderberg group founder and a steering committee member for 30 years, said, "To say we were striving for a one-world government is exaggerated, but not wholly unfair. Those of us in Bilderberg felt we couldn't go on forever fighting one another for nothing and killing people and rendering millions homeless. So we felt that a single community throughout the world would be a good thing."

So maybe my language was a little strong but the original point still holds.

If you watch the collateral murder video, there is a segment, maybe 3 seconds long, that I've never seen, or don't remember seeing before. Early in the video, you can see the Reuters jorno peering around the corner of a building. I'm not certain if he's down on one knee, maybe he's just stooped over a little. But he is furtively peering around the corner of the building, looking in the direction of the US troops that this group had engaged with just prior to the Apaches arriving on scene.

Those critical seconds seem to have been edited out of versions I've seen in the past. Otherwise, the video is as I remember it. (alternatively, maybe those seconds weren't edited out, but they are simply cleaner and clearer in this .flv version that I'm looking at.)

So, yeah, these are mostly files that have been released, but it seems there are some differences. Differences such as those couple seconds of video that are subtle, but critical.

Yes, it is clear that Assange screwed up re Sweden. Of course, it has always been clear that the man was missing a couple of marbles. I mean, holing up in the Ecuadorian embassy for years and years was not a rational act - he basically put himself in prison.

That said, the US is being it's usual, dictatorial self. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by pursuing Assange. He is not a US citizen, he was never in the US, he did not himself leak any documents. Trying to prosecute him on the flimsy basis they have invented is...pathetic. Just as the US should have long since pardoned Snowdon, just as they should never have locked Manning up in solitary confinement until he went totally loopy, just like CIA "rendition" is ok, if it happens out-of-sight in other countries, just like Guantanamo should never have existed. At some level in the US government, sheer sociopathic insanity is apparently a prerequisite.

I agree, he made clear his reasons for trying to avoid US custody at all costs: The treatment of Chelsea (nee Bradley) Manning for doing what Assange had done. That treatment, involving a couple of years of solitary confinement for 23.5 hours a day, without clothing or books or anything except a bed, all before any trial or conviction had occurred, was considered torture by a lot of organizations (e.g. Amnesty International and the UN Human Rights Council) who had looked into it and specialize in that sort of thing. This was also right around the time that Gitmo was operating in full force complete with the war crime of waterboarding, and there was a recently-exposed international system of "black sites" where people the US government didn't like were tortured, and there was zero guarantee that Assange wouldn't end up in there.

That said, the US is being it's usual, dictatorial self. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by pursuing Assange.

There's been a pretty clear reason the whole time why the Powers-That-Be in the USA want Assange in jail for a very long time (or better yet from their point of view, dead). And that reason is that the stuff he published embarrassed them, and they want to create a deterrent for anyone else thinking of doing the same thing.

If Assange had been living in the Middle East, he probably would have been hit with a drone strike a long time ago, and if he'd been not white and in the USA at the time he probably would have been shot and killed in a "tragic accident" or something, but he was a white guy in Europe so they decided they had to try to make going after him look all legitimate-like.

If you paid attention, you would realize Sweden was a sham setup to get him extradited; his mistake was in not immediately fleeing the UK... for the short time period he had before realizing the USA was going to flex it's power and trample rights/laws etc. They at one point even forced the UK into almost breaking international law and forcibly invading an embassy to get him. They already forced an unprecedented Interpol warrant for him; when he was IN SWEDEN they dropped charges and let him go... it wasn't until they could bribe a politician to go after him-- for a "crime" that had been thrown out of their court system previously but still existed on the books (as many laws the courts kill remain on paper; functionally killed since you need courts to recognize them.)

The fact that the USA extradited him just as he said all along proves he was correct the whole time; and the USA did do as the Sweden excuse was coming to an end (Sweden's case has been over a while now.)

Then you have the CIA leak about how they would destroy wikileaks and make an example of him... and basically went according to plan so that leak must have been real or by somebody who knows the playbook.

I just looked at the documents whose titles mention Switzerland. Sadly, nothing of interest. The child porn investigation - has all the identifying information blacked out. There's a short Excel sheet listing supposed accounts at a Swiss bank, but the amounts are underwhelming, and there's no real proof that the accounts exist - anyone can list stuff in an Excel sheet.

What *is* striking is how ordinary these documents are. Why should they even be considered sensitive, much less classified?

The requirements stating that mobile phone networks and VoIP networks must provide the capability for lawful interception? This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. Or a brief video showing ordinary military training, and a Swiss politician having a try at shooting a military rifle? He was head of the military (equivalent to SecDef) at one point, probably exactly when this was filmed, so...who cares?

The hard part of journalism is digging into data like this and finding the handful of data points that indicate something nefarious. Finding that story is hard; Putting it into a few hundred words that people can understand is the sexy and comparatively easy part.

This data probably also includes things they rejected because the sourcing was of dubious quality. Filtering that will be hard too. There are probably stories in this data, but they've probably already disclosed any big headline grabbers. Now it's time to dig through a field of haystacks for interesting needles.

Time has worked against him. Much like how people come to idolize a politician or athlete or cinema star, after a while you start to hear about the real person they are, not just the myth or the facade they carefully built. Mel Gibson ranting about the Jews, Eric Clapton ranting about vaccines or blacks, Clint Eastwood babbling to empty chairs, etc. With Assange, with a lot of people, it became clear that it was never about his supposed cause, but it was all about him. Trumpsters are finding out that Trump got vaccinated early and often, and is boosted, and that has taken some of the luster off of his golden toilet seat. Trump has always had a limited shelf life because the more he speaks, the quicker that luster comes off.
