The EU is perfectly willing to do other sleazy things when it's to their advantage. Yet suddenly they get all virtuous on this one particular subject? Look at who benefits from driving out US (and other) businesses from the EU. It's a great barrier to entry for foreign businesses. Protectionism has long been a thing in the EU.

Exactly my point. When you're a member of the protected class, then things are good. When you're not a member of the protected class, then sucks to be you. Notice the spin on this particular story as "we didn't want those media sources anyway." It's real convenient for European media/social media competitors (who are the real protected class). Sure, they have to obey some onerous regulations, but the advantage now is that anyone entering the EU market has to massively restructure their business models.
Meanwhile the EU public is less connected to the rest of the world and more in the dark as a result.

For example, what would be wrong with auctioning off green cards (only good in the name of the buyer to discourage scalping) to the tune of say, 1 million such cards a year (roughly 0.3% immigration rate) with prompt background checks; penalties for illegal immigration (key one would be that you couldn't participate in the auction); and large fines for businesses that deliberately or negligently hire illegal immigrants? It solves a lot of the problems with current immigration such as it being far easier to illegally immigrate for many people than legally immigrate and the games with the various visa types.

That scheme isn't entirely to my liking, but I don't have any real strong objections to it. We could negotiate on it, and hammer something out.
My problem is with illegal aliens, first. But my REALLY big problem is with congress.
In, uhhhhh - 1954 I think it was - we had Operation Wetback, in which we rounded up millions of illegals, and shipped them back to Mexico. (Many of those illegals were invited to the US TEMPORARILY during WW2 due to a rather severe labor shortage, then they just stayed.) At that point in time, congress said they were going to overhaul and update the immigration system. One of the lesser implications at that time, was that maybe some of those deportees might get to come back, if they wanted. Anyways - that can has been kicked down the road for sixty years plus now.

That really is the real problem. The bastards are lying to us, and they've been lying for more than sixty years. It isn't a partisan issue. How many times have the R's controlled congress since '54? They could have got it done. How many times have the D's controlled congress? THEY could have done the job. In sixty years, both parties have had time to do the job, unilaterally. It is obvious that the sons of bitches have their own agenda, which they are not sharing with us common folk.
The specifics of any immigration scheme, or set of laws, matters little. Congress can enact laws that I don't like very much, and because those laws are the law of the land, I will probably go along with those laws. If congress is doing it's job, I will support congress. If congress is NOT doing it's job, then I won't support them.
And, I'll add one more thing that might actually surprise you. I can actually empathize with some of those illegal aliens. I actually personally meet people who are affected by congress inaction. They have a choice of going the legal route, and probably dying of old age before they get all their paper work in order - OR - they can pay a coyote to bring them across the border. Despite the fact that I empathize with them, and despite the fact that some of them really are good people, and despite the fact that I LIKE some of them, THEY ARE STILL ILLEGAL!!
The lying bastards in Washington need to fix the problem. And, they need to end that abomination called "birthright citizenship". That amendment was very literally, purposely written for former slaves and the descendants of former slaves. IT DID NOT EVEN APPLY TO NATIVE AMERICANS AT THE TIME!! The amendment applies ONLY to people who have one or more parents who is an American citizen.

I would be unsurprised were the driving force behind the Sugar Tariff to be the corn industry. Consider that corn can be grown in far more US states than can be sugar can. There are also sugar beets which are grown in California's central valley; I expect it's grown elsewhere in the US but do not know specifically.
When the tariff was enacted, all the soda pop got its sugar replaced by High Fructose Corn Syrup - that's why I drink Mexican Coca-Cola when I can; now Mexican Fanta is available in the US as well.
Lots of American candy manufacturers moved their production to other countries. If you consider the resulting loss of American jobs, to the paltry sum of US sugar can and beet jobs that benefitted from the tariff you will see that more jobs were lost than were gained.
However I do not know about corn jobs.
The corn industry also benefits from requirements to add Ethyl Alcohol to gasoline; while that does reduce pollution modestly, it requires more energy to produce alcohol from corn than can be extracted by burning that alcohol in motor vehicles. I expect that most of the energy required to grow and transport corn then produce the ethanol is supplied by diesel fuel, which is far more polluting than gasoline; specifically it has more Sulfur.

Until the "globalists" took control, Europe, Russia, China, and Japan were in perpetual war going back beyond written history. It's unfortunate they fail to contain the jihadists they riled up to drive the Russians out of Afghanistan (where they were invited, by the way), and keep them out of Iran (yes, the ayatollah was an asset), but Europe has never seen anything close to the 73 years of relative peace they enjoy now, and it hangs on a very thin thread at this point, pray the U.S. doesn't pull out.

My money IS where my mouth is. At this point in time, I am a member (or at least an honorary member, if we discount hard core white supremacists) of the victorious culture or race. I mean to keep what I've got. I'm perfectly aware that if they are permitted, the new culture or race will move right in on top of the current victors, and take what the current occupants have.
Now - I need to bring up a couple of points here. I don't have enough native American blood in me to make much of a claim on any of the tribes. More than Pocahontas, but still not enough. But, my wife and kids have enough to become members of a tribe. My stepsons certainly have more than enough. One of their grand-daddies was pretty famous, and if I named him, you could find him in the American history books. So - I'm actually married into a native family. Guess it's kind of up to the wife whether she wants to keep me, huh? And, it's not up to you.
Next - supposing that every Euro-American were to go "home" to his great-great-great's native countries. Every one - they're all gone. Nothing left here but Native Americans, and maybe, if those natives want to keep them, African Americans. Maybe they'll invite the Asians to stay as well.
So then. Untrue. You are looking for special protections against others obtaining equality. If everyone who is not a white Christian male gets the same rights and treatment as you then you will no longer be "special" and "on top". You want to protect the privilege whites have, and oppressing every one else is the easiest way for you to do it.
You don't like anyone who is different than you (e.g., non-white, non-Christian, non-male and/or who disagrees with your "whites are superior so whites should be privileged" philosophy). In fact you fear them.
