The Guardian has published an op-ed by Edward Snowden elaborating on his reason for questioning Vladimir Putin on Russia's surveillance policies. To critics who claim Putin had co-opted Snowden for his own political goals, he points out that you can't call someone to account for lying to the public unless they are first on the record lying to the public.

The Guardian also makes available a copy of the video and documents Russia's use of SORM to perform surveillance during the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Hopefully Putin will use this to not extend his asylum. The sooner that traitor comes home to hang the better.

And so Snowden shows his true mettle. Once again risking his relative freedom to poke in the eye the autocrat who granted him temporarily asylum. Insisting that principles are more important. Balls. Of. Steel.

I don't know that I could have shared this knowledge with the world.

And for those that call Edward Snowden a traitor, may I remind you that there is a specific definition of a traitor. That definition is listed in Article 3, Section 3 of the Constitution, "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort".

By that definition, the press, and therefore the Citizens of the United States, are the Enemies of the Government, unless I am mistaken.

Snowden's piece appears to be a response to criticism he got for asking Putin a soft question. E.g. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/04/17/s orry-snowden-putin-lied-to-you-about-his-surveilla nce-state-and-made-you-a-pawn-of-it.html [thedailybeast.com]

I'm not sure what to think about this.
