So, the question really boils down to whether or not we should treat the Internet as a proper noun. Since it's clearly a unique entity (IPv4 and IPv6 are protocols that run *on* the Internet, and Internet2 is generally considered as either a second entity in its own right or as an experimental subset *of* the Internet), I'm going with that it deserves the capital I.
