Who will revive the electric car?
German carmaker Daimler plans to roll out at least six, and possibly as many as nine, electric car models as part of its push to compete with Tesla and Volkswagen's Audi, a person familiar with Daimler's plans told Reuters.
The maker of Mercedes-Benz cars remains on track to unveil a new electric car at the Paris motor show next month. In July, the German carmaker said it had accelerated development of premium electric cars, a segment currently dominated by United States-based rival Tesla. German trade magazine Automobilwoche earlier cited company sources as saying Daimler would bring to market more than six electric car models between 2018 and 2024.

While MB has the expertise to do the actual "car" bits as well, if not better than anyone else, their electronics (nav, etc.) haven't been up to snuff,
Because they're just going to pull someone off the car stereo team and ask them to design an EV, without first having a good college try at recruiting someone with EV experience?
What else are they bringing to the table (besides brand recognition)?
Bear in mind that Daimler/Merc also own the "Smart" brand which would be a natural starting point for a short-range city EV.

You know, when they talk about electrical problems on Germans cars, they are not talking about just the stereo.
Guess VW is bit better - after all, they were able to "pass" emission test using electronics. :)
