    That's a fair criticism. Indeed, IRC is incredibly crusty technology and it's questionable to support it anymore. It's clunky to use, full of hacks, and has various legacy limitations. There's gotta be better alternatives. Actually, I think that today there are even AJAX based "webchats" which get it more right.
