Costs for renunciation are over 3k now, possibly up to 5k. As to taxes: You're supposed to be keeping them for 7 years IN the US, so if you are kosher 5 years is nothing.
And yes the questionable policy decisions are making it harder and harder to morally justify remaining in America. Most people just lack the brains, breadth of tech knowledge, and knowledge of history to understand the full ramifications of what is happening, both in the US and in other 'free' countries around the world.
The situation is not going to be fixed since the populace either supports or doesn't care enough to protest, which means the only options remaining are outside of the respective countries immediate sphere of influence. Foreign influence may still find you dealing with objectionable actions, outside of their legal boundaries you can DO something about it, if the need arises and for better or worse consequences whether economic or militarily.
Considering salary for qualified positions and business opportunities vs IRS stomping, housing and pay it all healthcare etc. Is it still a profitable deal?
