Oregon has joined California, Hawaii, Maine, and New Jersey in raising the minimum age limit for purchasing tobacco and related products to 21:
Oregon is raising the minimum age for buying tobacco and e-cigarettes in the state to 21, bringing its regulations into line with sales of marijuana products.
The new law, signed by Governor Kate Brown on Wednesday and taking effect on Jan. 1, bans under-21s from buying tobacco products and vaping devices, and makes vendors liable for fines for under-age sales.
The current age limit in the state is 18.

Maybe in another decade we will have finally gotten drug laws to be in concert with how dangerous the drugs actually are.

That list isn't too terribly bad, but weed should be swapped with alcohol / tobacco. Sorry, but the mere fact that you placed those two together shows that you don't understand these things well enough to be making the list.

If I weren't a libertarian, I'd go,
18 - weed, shrooms, salvia, peyote, caffeine, LSD-25
21 - alcohol, nicotine, cocaine, opiates, meth, jimsonweed
I don't know as much about peyote or cocaine as I should. In general, go by LD50 and addiction potential. Alcohol, nicotine, opiates, and meth might need to be bumped to 32 or so. Very addictive and lethal substances.
Some substances such as capsaicin (my favorite molecule right after the cannabinoids) may produce psychoactive effects at nuclear levels but afaik are totally safe. Perhaps if we're going to have a nanny state keeping everybody safe, we could regulate all peppers with a power level (Scoville rating) over 100,000. Oh, and mandatory protective pads and SAE certified helmets until age 12.

Funny you should mention that: Statistically, alcohol is a greatest cause of drug-related death than all other drugs in America. Nicotine kills most of the rest of them.

Coming from a country that does not have universal healthcare it is funny that they keep mentioning the ‘cost to the public’ as a reason to ban smoking. I buy that argument from Canada, France and the many other countries where taxpayers bear the costs of medical treatment.
However if we are going to prohibit / inhibit bad substances and/or lifestyles then we need to look at a lot of other shit: soft drinks, fast food and lack of exercise, just to mention three. Each and all three increase your risk of life-threatening diseases that are usually expensive to treat, from diabetes to hearth diseases. So what, mandatory gym for everyone?
Where do we stop and let everyone choose their own poison? It’s not like we would live forever otherwise, so something or other would kill us.

Coming from a country which has universal healthcare, smokers here pay their medical costs because their drug of choice comes with a bonus premium tax. The price doubles as a good deterrent against teenage smoking as well.

Cigarettes are taxed to death down here in the health-care swamp, as well. The difference is, the tax here doesn't go to health care.

In another decade you will be able to give your kids THC/CBD in gradeschool to keep them from bugging teachers, in two decades it will be a requirement. Really tough being a teacher you know?
Naturally tobacco will be banned and distribution will be warrant the death penalty (Oregon will have to reconsider the death penalty due to how bad tobacco really is)

The city that I live in banned smoking in indoors/bars/outside bars/parks/etc a decade or so ago, and is now considering allowing pot smoking in bars/some other locations to be a choice left up to the business. Seems weird to me that pot is getting more and more legal in a time when tobacco is getting more and more illegal, I think we are not far off pot being more legal than tobacco in some places.

Considering how much less harmful pot is than any other drug, including aspirin, pot SHOULD be more legal than tobacco, except for those under 21 whose mental development suffers from it.

Well, I am a nicotine user. I heard that the FDA decided that cigarettes are all going to be lite from some point forward.
Maybe I'll become a regular pipe smoker again or go back to rolling my own cigarettes. I know I really need to just quit. I've got a vaporizer I use at home, and I've tried gradually decreasing the nicotine level in my vape over time, but I just can't get away from it. Tried patches. Tried cold turkey. Can't do it. The state I live in sucks, my job sucks, this sucks, that sucks, … I just need my nicotine.
What I want to know is how, with proposals such as these, do they intend to help people who are hopelessly addicted, such as myself, overcome their nicotine addiction without creating a huge black market. I'm guessing the answer, like with the alcohol prohibition experiment, is: we're the government and fuck you.

Just move closer to the south border, you can still buy a lot of good stuff in Mexico.
Come to think of it, there might be a market for the drug lords to include full-strength tobacco in their wares, so maybe you could buy Mexican or Cuban cigars and cigarettes from the same dealer. :-)

One of my co-workers at my third job (yes, I have three...) said she was able to quit smoking when her doctor got her on Bupropion (Wellbutrin) Ye Pfft! of All Knowledge describes it as an "atypical antidepressant" and more germanely as a norepinephrine/dopamine reuptake inhibitor and an antagonist of nicotinic receptors, which may explain its use as a smoking-cessation treatment.
Have you asked a doctor about this?

And... Lucky you! There's days in the winter here in Canada (or there used to be before global warming) when it would be bitter, bitter cold and you'd be standing there freezing your a** off pumping gas.

I'm not sure it's dumb. It kind of makes sense that you should be licensed in dispensing the carcinogenic explosive liquid.
...Then again, I spent a good chunk of my life in new jersey, the only other state where you aren't allowed to pump your own gas.

Also cannot pump my own gas in NJ. But I'm largely OK with it, and most likely would opt for full service if self-service was available. Then again I hope to have an electric car in the future, and if these stupid fucks make it that I cannot charge it at home because "MUH JEBS" I will kill someone.

Why would you want to pump your own gasoline?? I remember a time when self-service didn't exist. I miss it. Often some dweeb has gotten it on the pump handle and you can't get the stink to wash off. Back when I was young, an attendant would pump your gas, clean your windshield, air up your tires and check your oil. Now you have to do all that nasty shit yourself--and pay for the air you have to use in your tires yourself, to boot.

Anyway if they're going to raise the drinking/smoking age, we should demand they raise the age for military conscription also, to 22, so we can eliminate the college deferment for all those rich kids.

It has been merely suspended, in '72. It's still on the books to call back at any time. I still had to register, maybe they don't have to now.
One of the reasons they lowered the voting/drinking age to begin with was because a fuss was raised about the conscription age back when civil rights was still a thing.
