President Trump and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) have agreed to pursue a deal that would permanently remove the requirement that Congress repeatedly raise the debt ceiling, three people familiar with the decision said.

Trump, Schumer agree to pursue plan to repeal the debt ceiling

I'm used to Republicans only caring about the debt when a Democrat is in office but this is just wacky.

I recall that it was well understood that Trump didn't care about debt reduction anywhere near as much as other Republican candidates, such as #2 Ted Cruz.

However, shouldn't that "cut 2 regulations for every new regulation" plan be kicking in by now?

He promised to eliminate it in 8 years! [bloomberg.com]

But hell, at this point you could probably find a quote of him promising to double it in 8 years as well.

I know how to fix it, so easy, that aspect of it. And even, you know, the nuclear. I am doing so good on nuclear by people that are fair. What’s happening now is we’re paying for the world’s, we’re like the world’s policeman but they don’t pay us for it. We lose a fortune on the military. You know, our military budget is phenomenally higher than any other budget but it’s not for us, we’re protecting everybody else and we lose a fortune. Frankly, we lose a fortune on everything we do and we have to make our country strong financially again and if we don’t do that we’re never going to have a strong country again. And I’ll save Social Security. I’ll save things that everyone else says can’t be saved because I’ll bring back all of this money that we’re wasting on other countries. We’re going to have a country like you wouldn’t believe. The great people I'm bringing in are going to cut all the departments, all the government departments, by two or three percent. Very easy! We're going to help Japan, South Korea and Saudi Arabia. They pay us, we help with their nuclear. Once they have nuclear weapons, it's much cheaper for us. They'll be able to defend themselves. Less burden on us. Big saving in our military budget. We'll cut taxes. I went to Missouri and North Dakota to cut taxes. If we want to renew our PROSPERITY, restore OPPORTUNITY, & re-establish our economic DOMINANCE, then we need tax reform that is pro-growth. Big, big growth in our economy when we cut the taxes. And the globalism, it's going to stop. The way it's going, we’re not going to have anything left. I know how to stop it in two seconds. I'll put a 25% tax on China. So the factories start moving to the U.S.A. LG and Apple are already moving. More growth for our economy. Lots of #JOBS. More money to pay down the national debt. It’s possible that if Japan doesn’t want to pay up, we’ll say, "Good luck and defend yourself." If that means they’re going to have to arm in some way, they’re going to have to arm in some way. We can’t afford to -- we’re paying for the military of Japan. And every time this maniac in North Korea -- and it’s a bigger problem for them than it is for us, frankly -- every time this maniac in North Korea raises his head, we start doubling up. At one point do people take care of us? We’re a debtor nation. Our country is falling apart. Our infrastructure is dying. We owe all of those trillions of dollars, 20, it's something like $20 or $21 trillion. At what point do we say, "Enough, enough"? The Japs, the Saudis, they don’t like us so much and you know what, with me, they’re going to like us and they’re going to pay more and they’re going to be very happy, okay? They're going to pay much more money. 🇺🇸

The Wall Street/Bank bailouts proved that the debt is as phony as a three dollar bill. I don't know why people still believe that crap. It's neo-liberal bullshit.

And by the way, Trump is really a democrat, maintaining deep personal ties to people like the Clintons, despite all of last year's soap opera.

With Pelosi denouncing protestors and Feinstein defending Trump, I figured something was brewing. Trump like to win and make deals, those are both more important than any ideology. If it gets him something he wants and it looks like it will work, he absolutely will do it. I tell people often that if the Republicans don't get a working healthcare reform pushed through and the Democrats win in the mid terms, he may very well work with them, no compromises, and institute signal payer. Remember, only Nixon could go to China.
