Energy from offshore wind in the UK will be cheaper than electricity from new nuclear power for the first time.
The cost of subsidies for new offshore wind farms has halved since the last 2015 auction for clean energy projects
Two firms said they were willing to build offshore wind farms for a subsidy of £57.50 per megawatt hour for 2022-23.
This compares with the new Hinkley Point C nuclear plant securing subsidies of £92.50 per megawatt hour.
Nuclear firms said the UK still needed a mix of low-carbon energy, especially for when wind power was not available.
Both nuclear and wind receive subsidies, but for the first time wind is coming to market with less, so providing the same electricity with less cost to the public than nuclear.

With the global warming, which is NOT a real thing by the way and no amount of science/reality will convince me otherwise, the winds will probably pick up (but don't ask Floridians about that, they don't know ANYTHING about high winds) and make wind power even more affordable.
But, probably not. Because there is no global warming.

Depends. Wind turbines are designed for a certain range of wind velocities. They *could* be designed for hurricane strength winds, but those are so uncommon that it would be inefficient. But only some are designed for really low wind speeds.

The [Australia] wind farm's turbines automatically start turning when wind speed is greater than 15 km/hr. The turbines reach maximum power at wind speeds of 54 km/hr and automatically shut down in very high winds greater than 72 km/hr. [essentialenergy.com.au]
From the US government's Energy.gov: Controller: Starts up the machine at wind speeds of about 8 to 16 miles per hour (mph) and shuts off the machine at about 55 mph. Turbines do not operate at wind speeds above about 55 mph because they may be damaged by the high winds. [energy.gov]

:-) Oh c'mon... People are blaming "global warming" every time their hats get blown off their heads. I'll bet ya hurricanes were a lot bigger during the Mesozoic Era. Humans are becoming too frail to survive much longer on this planet. Pretty soon they're all gonna need one of those little electric Walmart scooters to get from the TV room to the fridge. The Russians will be the last ones standing.
