The Nobel Physics Prize 2017 has been awarded to three scientists for their discoveries in gravitational waves. The three are Rainer Weiss of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Barry Barish and Kip Thorne of the California Institute of Technology. The German-born Weiss was awarded half of the 9-million-kronor ($1.1 million) prize amount and Thorne and Barish will split the other half.

I'm very surprised they didn't share the prize with the LISA Pathfinder people. Remember how the initial claim from LIGO that they'd detected gravity waves was retracted pending better data, meanwhile the LISA Pathfinder mission made a definite observation?

What are you talking about? What definite observation?

It was the same kind of interferometer but much smaller.

Someone told me that Dr. Thorne suppressed the ground vibration by putting the interferometer parts on cushions that had alternating lead breaks and nerfmobiles.

Typical patriarchal bullshit. When will they start giving out Nobel Prizes on a more inclusive basis? Latinos, young Black women and millennial transexuals deserve Nobel Prizes too... you can't continue supressing them.
