Cambodia charges foreigners with making pornographic images

Prosecutors in Cambodia have charged 10 foreigners, including five Britons, with producing pornographic images after raiding a villa in Siem Reap. They were arrested on Thursday after images emerged of people apparently imitating sexual positions at a party in the north-western town. If convicted, they face up to a year in prison.

Two Canadians held in Cambodia for 'dancing pornographically'

A police release included photos of multiple clothed men and women straddling one another on the floor, some in sexually suggestive positions. Those photos are said to have been shared on social media prior to the arrests.

[...] [Joshua Kurlantzick, a senior fellow with the U.S.-based Council on Foreign Relations think tank,] said the Cambodian government is grappling with pressure to enforce more conservative values, an agenda that is at odds with the country's party-oriented reputation among young western travellers. Foreigners dressed in skimpy clothing while visiting religious and historical monuments have been one source of tension. "Cambodian officials have been a little frustrated," Kurlantzick said. "Partly through their own fault, they allowed a certain very seedy sex tourism culture to take place in (the capital) Phnom Penh."

He said that while the arrests are "pretty unusual," travellers should be aware that the Cambodian government is increasingly lashing out against all types of foreign influence, including boisterous tourists. "The overall environment in Cambodia has just become much more repressed over the last year," Kurlantzick said. "The country is potentially something of a tinder box because of that."

The country has massive problems so I feel for them on that, but ad a tourist I did not enjoy being harassed constantly to give them money. Two ladies physically blockaded me in a busy street trying to get me into their massage parlor.

Definitely were some nice people as well, by overall I'd say go to Thailand or Vietnam, let cambodia get their shit together. Arresting people for suggestive photos? Pleaaase. How about arrest your citizens for pushing prostitutes and drugs on tourists? It was a daily occurrence.

Remembered another fun bit. The airport strictly regulates transportation and the amount I paid for a couple km ride to the hotel was the same I paid later to rent the same type of taxi for a full day!! Oh, and $30+ "visa processing" fee which I have never seen except in Cambodia. Getting a pass to visit their temples was ridiculous, you have to go way out of the way to the special building.

Again, I get that it is a poor country and they need to suck money out of tourists, however it was a thoroughly unpleasant experience overall and the positive bits I can experience in many other more friendly countries. This story just highlights how puritan southeast asia really is. Oh, modesty is soooo important for them. Go swimming without a shirt on (as a guy) and prepare for scandal!!

Dumbass, I was not traumatized and it was in fact a little amusing. It was a story to illustrate the general harassment tourists receive. Who would want to go to a country like that?

PS: you are a little snowflake triggered by the mere possibility of someone else being triggered. It is ridiculous. I can only surmise that you are a virgin and thus the prospect of two ladies giving you any attention has you questioning my sanity.
