Holy crap, can you even imagine the response if Obama had proposed extrajudicial confiscation of guns?!

    Don't be fooled.

The NRA have put him up to this: By threatening to take away peoples' guns and seemingly going against the stated values of the gun lobby, he has just caused a huge spike in gun & ammo sales.
In fact, it wouldn't surprise me at all to discover that Trump and his family have recently bought shares in various gun companies, and will sell them again in two weeks when he goes back to his pro-gun stance.

This may be a stupid question (someone will say it is regardless), but...

Wasn't it at some point required that the POTUS have business interests (investments, holdings, what have you) placed in a blind trust to prevent conflict of interest? I know I'm recalling this paradigm from somewhere,,, How far off the mark am I?

That is what normally happens, yes, although I think it's more of a tradition than a legal requirement (kind of like the tax-disclosure thing). There are still some outstanding questions as to how effectively Trump divested himself. IIRC he has handed control over one of his sons. That's nothing like a "blind trust", it would be absurdly easy for him to simply run his companies by proxy, and use his presidential influences to profit accordingly. Indeed, there have already been various accusations that h'es using his position to garner business for his various private interests: https://www.economist.com/news/business/21725303-six-months-mr-trumps-conflicts-interest-look-even-worse-how-donald-trump-monetising [economist.com]

"required"? No. Expected, normal, yes. But this administration has been breaking all types of traditions.

There are laws about this that affect his cabinet, but not the president himself.

There is the emoluments clause in the constitution, which Trump has arguably violated already, but impeachment is a political process, not a judicial process, so don't expect anything to happen while the Republicans control Congress.

Dems had the best gun advertising campaign going. All they needed to do was say the two words "gun control" and people would freak out and stockpile more. I'm sure the industry has had enough of the 2017 lull and decided it was time to bump sales again. Hell, you want a good conspiracy? Here: School shootings are a plot by the gun industry to sell more guns. No one cares about gun control if there arent any dead children to think about (brown ones don't count). In fact, since school shootings have happened the popularity of the AR15 and other military styled weapons have skyrocketed. Spilling blood is good for gun sales. Here at work four people bought AR15's within the last year alone just for the hell of it or self defence which I say is better and cheaper done with a good mossberg or remington and lighter buck for home and keep a good pistol or two around (though not as fun).

Maybe, probably, you're being a little bit sarcastic. Let me tell you, I'm very proud of our 2nd Amendment people. I want to get a lot more guns out there, into the hands of GOOD GUYS -- and ladies. Our teachers who left the Marines, left the Air Force, left the Army. So many of our teachers are very gun-adept, they have a great skill. Let's get them guns, let's give them a bonus to carry a gun or two, we do the concealed carry. No more gun-free zones. So our schools become hardened targets. And the very COWARDLY shooters -- these guys don't want to die -- will stay away. They'll go somewhere else, away from the children.

Let's ban those bump stocks. The guy in Las Vegas, in the Mandalay Bay -- NOT MY HOTEL -- used the bump stocks, it wasn't great. The guy in Parkland didn't use them. That one could have been really bad, if he had a bump stock.

We have some bad, or sick, guys out there. Some who just aren't safe when they have guns. Maybe they're just too young. The guy in Parkland, only 19 years old. What if we told him, "sorry but you're too young to buy that kind of gun, wait till you're 21 or buy a different one." Like we do with alcohol (it killed my brother). We could save so many lives that way. The NRA hates that idea. But I'm still saying it.

And the mental illness, we have so many mentally ill folks. And so many of them are safe, as safe as regular folks. But Obama wanted to do a thing where if somebody is mentally ill and can't take care of his own money, he wouldn't be allowed to have guns. And I said, hold on here, taking good care of money is so different from taking good care of a firearm, let's repeal that. Let's cancel it because it's very foolish. But, maybe not as foolish as I thought. Because if you look into the school shootings & mass shootings -- not many people know this -- A LOT of those shooters have mental illnesses. Or used to have mental illness. I will be strongly pushing Comprehensive Background Checks with an emphasis on Mental Health.

And when someone goes on Social Media and makes threats, our Police need to be able to go in and take the guns & weapons. When it's a very serious & specific threat. Kathy Griffin, I could have said, "lock her up." Because she shared something HORRIBLE, as everybody knows. I didn't say that, I didn't go after her that way. She still has her knife, her guns, whatever. My son could go on the Internet tomorrow and find another scary picture of her. This is for things like what happened in Parkland, Where someone's going to kill.

Look, this is very simple. Very easy. People complicate it so much, it's not complicated. We need MORE GOOD GUYS WITH GUNS & LESS BAD GUYS WITH GUNS. And ladies.

Like we do with alcohol (it killed my brother).

How can you be sure that it didn't kill you too? Few of us are really sure that you're alive. How many living brain cells do you have? And, how many living hairs?

When Trump starts talking about dead people, all sorts of questions come to mind . . .

Dr. Bornstein, my personal doctor, says I'm "the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency" and that I have my own hair. Dr. Jackson, my government doctor, says I have very good brain. He gave me a brain test, I got 30 out of 30 -- let's see Rex Tillerson beat that! Dr. Jackson says I have "incredibly good genes." He says I could live to 200 if I diet & exercise. If we @RepealThe22nd [twitter.com] I could be President in the 23rd Century! And make America unbelievably great! Obama would go into a smoky room -- into a back room, he quit smoking, I never smoked -- with the Washington elites, he'd make a TERRIBLE DEAL, and our Fake News media would fall over themselves praising him. Because he always, always put the Establishment & special interests first. I put America First. And the American people. I want you, the American people, to see and hear these VERY SPECIAL negotiations. These BIPARTISAN negotiations. Without going through the LYING MSM. So I bring in the cameras -- we did this before, it's not the first time -- we negotiate with cameras rolling. Live TV isn't easy, folks, very easy to have a DISASTER. If you ever saw "SNL" you know what I mean -- if you didn't see it, don't waste your time.

I make the best deals, and I always WIN, as everybody knows. But winning doesn't mean the other guy gets nothing. We need to protect the children, our schools MUST BE SAFE. The Dems always say, "let's take away the guns," right? I want the teachers to have guns. So if a bad guy comes in, there's a very gun-adept teacher, it's going to be over very quickly. Very quickly. But we can also talk about, let's take those guns away from the bad dudes. Before they start shooting. But we must have Due Process, not a witch hunt. That's so important. So important. For a conservative, it's very important. We defend our Constitution, and we believe in the wisdom of our Founders. Our Constitution is great.

If there's another Parkland situation, if we were going to have another of those, I'd run in there even if I didn't have a weapon. I'd NEGOTIATE. And make an amazing deal.

Like the time in November 1991 when Marla and I -- we were married then -- were on our way to a Paula Abdul concert in New York. And I saw a hoodlum beating a man very badly with a baseball bat. Very badly. Someone in the car looked over and said, "gee, look at that, it’s a mugging." I said to my driver to stop the car because it was brutal-looking. Marla said, "please don't do this." But I got out of the car. The guy with the bat looked at me and I said, "look, you've gotta stop this, put down the bat." I guess he recognized me because he said, "Mr. Trump, I didn't do anything wrong." I said, "How could you not do anything wrong when you're whacking a guy with a bat?" Then he ran away. Because of me. Because I NEGOTIATE like nobody else can.

And Pyeongchang, sounds a lot like Pyongyang, so many people get those mixed up. But they have the Olympics going on at Pyeongchang in South Korea. The North Koreans marched together with South Koreans under the same flag at the opening ceremony. Under the unification flag, it means getting back together as one country. Beautiful ceremony! And they made one team for the women's hockey (the outfits for that are much too heavy, show us some skin, ladies). And this is just the beginning, there's going to be much more. Because of me, all because of me. Because of my speeches and my tweets. Nobody could put Korea back together, I'm doing it.

And nobody could stop the school shootings, I'm going to get something done eventually. I'm moving very strongly on it. So many of our politicians -- especially our Republicans -- are afraid of the NRA. They have less power over me. What do I need? I wasn't afraid of a hoodlum with a baseball bat. I wasn't afraid of Little Rocket Man. And I'm not afraid of the NRA. Chris Cox has done tremendous work on behalf of our Second Amendment. And Wayne LaPierre has been an unflinching leader in the fight for freedom. The Fake News said I couldn't get to 270 in the Electoral College. I got 306 and the NRA was a big part of that. But we're going to do the right thing. And I won't let them stand in the way!
