Video game characters could soon be truer to life thanks to AI that can teach itself to fight and flip.

Video game developers often turn to motion capture when they want realistic character animations. Mocap isn't very flexible, though, as it's hard to adapt a canned animation to different body shapes, unusual terrain or an interruption from another character. Researchers might have a better solution: teach the characters to fend for themselves. They've developed a deep learning engine (DeepMimic) that has characters learning to imitate reference mocap animations or even hand-animated keyframes, effectively training them to become virtual stunt actors. The AI promises realistic motion with the kind of flexibility that's difficult even with methods that blend scripted animations together.

What if the enemy all becomes conscientious objectors?

The game would be no fun anymore if they refused to fight!

i could see VR moving into the direction of being a "driver" of one of these automaton.

with VR-user input in the "driver seat", the games aim is to train your agent to become a super-agent and
which, after completing some single-player levels (uniquely), you can drop into a multiplayer dead-match and
see how your agent performs against other?

for example: the VR-user prefers sniper rifles .. the automaton learns this and in dead-match will prefer to use sniper rifle -or-
VR-user likes to blow things up, thus the automaton in death-match will hunt/prefer grenades or rocket launchers?

also, maybe whilst progressing thru the single-player "learning" mission the automaton will predict more and more actions on its own,
taking the "training VR-user" for a ride :]

Speaking of fighting, I'd like to see this used to script melee battles of African chimpouts and shootouts. You know how aggressive Africans do that thing where they swing their long monkey arms around when threatening a rival male, kinda like how hip hop artists do with the mic.

People wonder why the goddamn gaming industry is stagnant. No, it's not because of EA. It's because nobody has the balls to make a professionally-made game set in Africa and with tribal warlords and all of their improvised weapons and armor, like the torn '80's Mickey Mouse shirts they wear and motorized shopping carts with machine guns welded to the front.

Or a game about police brutality where you're a 'roided up cop tear-gassing nonviolent protesters and using excessive force and vehicular homicide on Antifa scumbags.

There are tons of ideas ripe for the picking, and they will sell like hotcakes. But nobody has the balls to make them. Maybe another four of President Donald Trump will change that.

          ?

          Really I want to know.

I can see that you're angry at many other people. That must have come from somewhere.

          It's OK, Ethanol. I'm a good listener.

Now, if they could just make the acting in "real" movies better, rather than making the stunts bigger and sillier..

Now that Weinstein is persona non grata, we may yet see decent female actors again.

Jennifer Lawrence recently claimed to be grossed out [glamour.com] by sex. Well, you would be too, if you had to sleep with a disgusting fat stubbly slob with those vivid coked-up memories burned into your brain. I bet the only reason why those whores turned against him is because he gave them all herpes or AIDS.
