It is impossible to get hired when nobody is hiring.

I do not even suck, you see. I am always busy building new projects and learning new skills. My resume gets ever longer every year as the years drag on. I have a ton of tech skills. Interviewers ask me, with such a long list of skills and breadth of knowledge and experience, how is it possible that I am not working. The reason is simple. Nobody is hiring.

Yeah, nah, oi, my simple minded idiot friend, it does not matter what I do. Nobody is hiring.

Quit relying on others and make your own way then. If you really have the skills, just make something people want and get paid. Make some shitty phone apps and harvest info for mad profitz bro. It's not that hard to get paid.

      But then I read:

A supposedly great resume and you're even getting interviews? While I've heard of a few cases where employers have pretended to do interviews, for the most part, that's real hiring right there. Sorry, not only do you suck, but you choose to suck.

The reason is simple. Nobody is hiring.

If you really used that line in front of someone who is interviewing you and hence, actually hiring people, then that's doubly stupid - you came up with this flimsy, brazen lie in front of someone who is actually hiring. Of course, you're not going to make the list.

The vast majority of people just find work when they need to. They don't come up with an elaborate fairy tale to explain why they can't.

Yes I am getting recruiter calls daily, and yes I am getting interviews. And nobody is hiring. I'm not the one choosing not to hire anyone. I have no money and no power. The power lies entirely with the employers with all the money who refuse to employ anyone and who get on a power trip by conducting interviews when they know for certain that not a single one of the candidates will be hired. I've heard every excuse there is, from "sorry we had our budget cut and the job was eliminated but the interviews were still on the schedule" to "you should apply anywhere else because you have too many skills and you'll be bored here even though you say you're able and willing to do the work."

You're a sheltered entitled idiot, khallow. Pull your head out of your asshole and see the real world around you, khallow.

You don't know what the hell you are talking about. The situation is I'm seeking a job because I don't have a job therefore I'm seeking a job. The plain truth doesn't get any more true. The employers are blatant liars who lie about hiring for jobs that don't exist. They know they can get away with lying in an employers' market with millions unemployed who will never be employed. Employers don't need to be told nobody is hiring. Employers already know they are not hiring anyone.

The vast majority of people just find work when they need to. They don't come up with an elaborate fairy tale to explain why they can't.

Vast majority, you say, you fucking weasel. That's right, you admit the existence of the minority of candidates who have the raw talent and the natural drive and the formal education and the refined skill and the years of experience and the passionate attitude to achieve and yet still never find jobs anywhere.

You fucking suck, khallow. You're just like every other pigheaded cunt I always find everywhere in the tech industry who thinks everybody can just get a job since, ... duh, you gots a jerb. You are utterly toxic poisonous shit, khallow.

There are currently over five million jobs that employers can't find anyone to fill. Try again.

You mean there are millions of fake jobs that employers refuse to fill. Payroll is an unacceptable expenditure when billionaires are competing to see who can hoard the most money. And so millions of unemployed able and willing workers can't find work, and they are powerless to do anything about the situation.

I've been trying again for years. Meanwhile I've been picking up open source projects, learning whatever language the project uses, and contributing code. I do this because I can, not for what it's worth, which is absolutely fucking nothing at all. Coding doesn't pay, despite the billionaire liars of the tech industry who want every child to learn to code and be jobless and poor.

Or do like I've been doing the past twenty years or so and create your own job.

Shoving fish up your ass and sucking your own dick counts as paid work, I suppose. There are some odd porn fetishists out there.

Certainly I am not entitled to be hired. But I expect much less fraud in the job market than I see on a daily basis. Out of thousands of jobs for which I meet or exceed the required qualifications, I expect at least one job to be real and not blatantly fake.

Not to mention that a lot of the qualifications are total garbage. Lack a piece of paper but have the skill and experience to do the job? Are you extremely introverted and don't hide that fact? Good luck getting hired, except by yourself. You're not the right "fit," after all.

No, I mean there are millions of jobs you simply do not want to do. You seem to labor under the impression that the world owes you a job as a code monkey. This is not the case any more than it was for the buggy whip makers.

If you can't understand that you can create your own job by finding something people either need or very much want and filling that need in exchange for money, you're probably doomed to be a wage slave for life. And one I wouldn't hire as you seem to lack the ability to think outside of very narrow windows. Me, I've been doing exactly what I just described for over twenty years. I did take a couple years off when I first moved out to TN but then I'd done well enough previously that I could. As further evidence that this is possible, I offer MDC's situation.

Back to the wage slavery though... If you haven't been able to find a code monkey job for years it's either because you don't really want to, because you're not worth hiring as one, or because your prospective employers are able to suss out that you are in fact a whiny little bitch that they don't want to have to associate with regularly.

Oi! No one here would WANT to work for you. The moment anyone opens their mouth about a problem or issue they automatically become "whiny little bitches" with no chance of getting a constructive response.

Not everybody is in a position where they can magically "create their own job". That takes resources, contacts, luck, and being in just the right place at the right time. Those that manage to do that are quire privileged.

In case you hadn't noticed, society expects every able bodied adult to have a job. So of course there is a little feeling of entitlement there. You seem to expect everyone who can't get a job to just kill themselves.

The solution there should be obvious; do something other than whine when you open your mouth.

Working your ass off and taking huge risks so that you're not stuck being a wage slave is privilege now? There is no luck in business except bad unless you're a moron. You look ahead, see that you're going to need $blah, and create a future where $blah == true. Now if you're an utter fool like you, you don't bother with all that, wonder why the world isn't handing you sacks of free money, go bankrupt, and blame "luck", yes.

You have the logic backwards there. The expectation of you to work is an expectation of earning your own way in life. The expectation of someone handing you anything you don't deserve is antithetical to that.

Good luck to you when YOUR current gig is up. We'll be sure to keep our fingers in our ears so we can't hear YOU whining as you starve to death.

Luck has nothing to do with it. I'll have more work lined up before I get done with what I'm currently working on because I will do everything I have to to make certain that situation comes to be true.

Normal people work eight hours a day, sleep eight hours a day, and have eight left over to find time for job hunting. That's not even considering the two days off they get each week. The job situation is not that bad in all countries. Sure, there are those that are worse than the US (Spain, Greece), but others that are quite a bit better. You can also get other benefits: better food, more affordable health care, less violent crime, a police force you don't need to fear etc. On top of that you may get better working conditions, better annual leave and better wages.
