What rock have you been living under?

Internet speeds that have not increased since 1999

In 1999, I was living in Cupertino, CA, right across the freeway from the Apple campus. My broadband options were dial up (56kbs or less, mostly less) or a completely over-subscribed cable plan that gave, at best, 500 kbs, and varied wildly as people used it. No DSL as I was too far from all central offices in the area.

Today, I live in a borderline rural area and I have a cable plan that tests at 140 Mbs. With inflation I don't think the price increase is that much either. It is beyond night and day how things have improved since 1999.
