The Trump administration has crafted a draft bill — ordered by the president — that would declare America's abandonment of World Trade Organization rules, according to Axios. The bill essentially provides President Donald Trump — who has argued for a better position for the U.S. in big trade pacts — a license to raise U.S. tariffs at will, without congressional consent and largely outside of the international rules governed by the WTO. The bill, titled the "United States Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Act," would give Trump unilateral power to ignore the two most basic principles of the WTO and negotiate one-on-one with any country.

Can you imagine, what if Crooked Hillary had won? Believe me, she wouldn't be taking us out of the World Trade Organization. And she wouldn't be renegotiating. Because she's a HUGE GLOBALIST, she owes so much to the Global Special Interests. But if she did -- if somehow she did -- our alt-left would be dancing in the streets. They're not dancing now. Because they voted for a huge globalist. But does anyone remember the Battle in Seattle? If you're not too young maybe you remember that one. Big fight, I'll tell you, it wasn't a WWE fight. It was our alt-left going up against the WTO. And against the city, they did so much damage to the city. Very destructive. President Clinton -- Bill Clinton -- sent in the National Guard. And kept us in the WTO.
You know, our alt-left was right. These trade deals are a disaster. The World Trade Organization is a disaster. It was set up for the benefit of everybody but us. They have taken advantage of this country like you wouldn’t believe. We lose the lawsuits, almost all of the lawsuits in the WTO. We're going to renegotiate or we're going to pull out. As I promised. Trust me, when I say I'll pull out I pull out. Always, always. 100%. No more will the WTO screw the United States!!!!

There's been a lot of stories about the WTO lately. This is not all the US is doing.
* Currently the US is vetoing all judicial appointments until the WTO agrees to always decide cases as directed by the US. This is a Trump administration policy. The WTO is undermanned right now because of unfilled positions. Example source: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trade-wto/diplomats-search-for-way-to-save-trade-system-after-u-s-vetoes-judges-idUSKBN1DR2PR [reuters.com]
* The US recently said it will be canceling all proceedings that exceed the 90 day time limits for rulings in disputes being worked on. Strictly speaking it has authority to do this but nearly everything that goes through the WTO is behind schedule because the scale it operates at is so huge and complicated. Things were just being allowed to proceed anyway and the 90 day time limit had become something of a relic. Did I mention the WTO is also undermanned and now the workload pace is increasing as a result of all this? Whoever marked this insightful (and frankly, whoever wrote it if they weren't being sarcastic) seriously needs to reconnect with reality. These institutions are what drove our prosperity and solidified our dominant position in the world. Deconstruct them, and you're essentially deconstructing America's position as economic and military leader in the world. This ins't making America "Great" again, it's destroying America's position as a world leader and relegating us to second or third tier status, a position we are unlikely to ever emerge from again. Which means less capital investment, less jobs, a smaller economy, less influence on the world, and subservience to Russia, China, and a host of other upwardly-mobile nations.
