President Trump Relaxes US Cyber-Attacks Rules:
President Trump has signed an order relaxing rules around the use of cyber-weapons, the Wall Street Journal reports.[*]
It is a reversal of guidelines, drawn up under President Obama, which required a large number of federal agencies to be involved in any decision to launch a cyber-attack.
[...] The US administration is under pressure to deal with cyber-threats, amid growing concerns that state-sponsored hacks could hit critical infrastructure.
Prof Alan Woodward, a computer scientist at the University of Surrey, told the BBC: "We are in a era when certain governments are acting aggressively in cyber-space, and that is rightly condemned by governments such as that in the US.
"To respond in kind is not necessarily the way to de-escalate the situation."
He added: "You wouldn't allow a pre-emptive physical attack without thorough analysis and approval at the highest levels, so why would cyber-attacks be any different?"

Let's hope extreme care is taken to identify the actual source of an attack, rather than the apparent source.

It's like Outer Space. Because it's mostly empty. But if we're not careful our enemies -- Iran, China, ISIS, the EU -- can take it over. And do horrible attacks on us -- cyber attacks. We don't really know, maybe they've already taken it over. Cyber is a war-fighting domain just like the land, air, sea, and space. I was saying it the other day. Because we’re doing a tremendous amount of work in space. I said, maybe we need a new force. We’ll call it the Cyber Force. And I was not really serious. And then I said, what a great idea. Maybe we’ll have to do that. That could happen. That could be the big, breaking story. Cyber Force. It’s like the Army and the Navy, but for cyber. Separate but equal. Because we’re spending a lot of money on cyber. It is not enough to have an American presence in cyber, we must have American dominance in cyber.
We're losing a lot of people because of cyber war. We have to go see Bill Gates and a lot of different people that really understand what's happening. John McAfee -- who I defeated very soundly in 2016. Those guys know more about cyber hacking than anyone. About STOPPING it, so important. So important. And hopefully they'll have time to help us get our Cyber Force started. So we can start WINNING in Cyber Space!!!

But we keep handing them exactly what they need on a silver platter!
We will willingly pass law ( copyright/digital lock/DRM) to keep ourselves ignorant, and our own Congress will sign such!
Wouldn't be nice for writers of business contracts if we could not understand what we are agreeing to in a contract? We have already taken the first step by holding tinyprint in low contrast as being legally enforceable.... even if it was agreed to by an old man who cannot even see the thing!
You oughta see the conniptions I have drawn from salesmen when I present them with MY paper to sign while I sign theirs... I simply state, in 12 point font, that its mutually agreed that since I am a senior citizen and cannot read anything less than 12 point font and a CIE contrast ratio below 0.8 , all such text not meeting this requirement will be deemed to have no legal significance whatsoever... and I leave some space to denote which contracts I signed that is associated with this codicil.
I have yet to have a salesman sign it.
When denied, I ask if their company thinks its really right to do this kind of stuff? Am I asking too much? Just to be aware of what I am agreeing to? I remind them of the "ABC's of Salesmanship... Always Be Closing!" The customer is ready to sign, right now! All it takes to Close the Sale is just a signature on this form. Hell, I am being asked for FOUR signatures,,, the salesman can't even reciprocate with ONE? "Just" one? What kind of salesman is he anyway if he can't even sign one extremely simple little form?
