Brett Kavanaugh has been confirmed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. The vote was 50-48 in favor of Kavanaugh.
Senators Collins, Flake, and Manchin had already announced their intentions to confirm Kavanaugh before the vote was held. Senator Lisa Murkowski, who was previously ready to vote "no", agreed to vote "present" instead so that Senator Steve Daines could attend his daughter's wedding instead of being present in the Senate to support Kavanaugh.

As I lately said elsewhere, I think next time the left gets majorly thwarted, the paid Antifa (as distinguished from the LARPers) will morph into our own version of the IRA. Which is probably just as well, since better if the public can see them for what they are. And the response? Hey, leftards, you want martial law? this is how you get martial law.

My understanding is that the IRA believed in the cause and were prepared to die for it. The pathetic paid LARPers making up Antifa are not the same class of humans as IRA members. They are heavily programmed post-modernists, each believing the world revolves around themselves and their cellphone. They will crumble instantly.

Yes, I agree entirely, but there does exist a core of genuine, committed, well-paid Antifa -- look how different they are in Europe (where Antifa is mostly genuinely dangerous thugs who don't back down) from the mostly-LARPers in the U.S. Once our LARPers crumble, the committed types will remain. Not many, but enough to be a problem, at least in the cities where they've made a habit of letting thugs operate as they please. Here in flyover country, their careers would get, ah, truncated.

They're not enough to be a problem now, even if they were all committed to the cause. They would be a non-issue if mayors and police chiefs didn't tell their cops to stand down and let them do whatever they like.

And there's the rub. Knock a few of 'em into the bushes and the LARPers would all slink away. The rest aren't a serious problem YET. Hopefully those cities will get their act together and keep 'em that way, but I wouldn't count on it.

Not "instantly", but pretty quickly.
Look up the Redneck Revolt. https://www.redneckrevolt.org/ [redneckrevolt.org] Basically, it's a militia organization, which backs up Antifa. The real military arm of Antifa. I don't really know their quality - I doubt they can fight a sustained battle against Boy Scouts. But, we may presume that they will put up a fight, for awhile, anyway. Lots of idiots think that because they have a weapon in their hands, they are a force to be reckoned with.
Even if they surprise the hell out of me, and fight ten times better than I expect, there aren't enough of them to matter, long term. The only way they win, is if they inflict several thousand casualties for each one they suffer.
