    Well, it would be really striking news if anyone were the reincarnation of Buddha, since the whole point of Buddhism is that Buddha didn't reincarnate because he had achieved enlightenment.

    Yes, this is correct. The thus-gone-one is indubitably thus-gone. But after a Kalpa, he will return in the from of the Future Buddha. Are we too early for this?
