An elderly friend died last year and among other things I inherited a couple of bottles of Creme de Menthe. For anyone unfamiliar, it's bright green and very minty -- 60 proof / 30% alcohol by volume. I'm not a regular drinker, and I am one of those weirdos that believes in waste-not, want-not, so I felt obligated to find a way to (slowly) consume it. My eventual choice was to pour a shot or two over a bowl of chocolate ice cream -- not bad, compare to mint chocolate-chip ice cream, with a little kick.
Any other suggestions?

If the cap makes a good seal, most alcoholic beverages last for ages. If you happen to get a poorly fitting seal, you can come back to an opened bottle, to find that the alcohol has evaporated. We ought to be aware that not all bottle caps are equal.

You know, I was thinking that but it seemed obvious so didn't write it. But yes, absolutely, nice tight screw-on cap. Corks have to be kept wet. Otherwise in umpteen years you have some green syrup.

I had one case of about twenty months. Asked the wife to pick up some Scotch, and she did so. Went through about half the bottle in a couple months, then just didn't want any again for awhile. The holiday season rolled around again, and I reached for the bottle. The goo at the bottom just didn't look very appetizing. It could have been my own fault - maybe I didn't screw the top as tightly as I should have. But, I really think that the cap made a poor seal for some reason other than my own carelessness. Had I finished the bottle sooner, it wouldn't have been an issue.

That "goo" was the good stuff! Just add water (or not), grain alcohol, stir, enjoy.

Yeah, caps that don't seal... I wonder if you heard that from a teenager who might have been covering for something? If there is a teenager in the house, I'd look there before looking at the caps!!
