CNet:

Review site Rotten Tomatoes is instituting some changes, leading many to believe it's responding to the recent controversy over the site's Captain Marvel page. But Paul Yanover, president of Fandango, which owns the site, told CNET that's not the whole story.

In case you were snapped away by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, and thus missed the recent controversy, here's a recap. Captain Marvel doesn't come out until March 8, but users were already leaving negative comments about the film on Rotten Tomatoes, a process dubbed "review bombing." Many recent comments seemed to come from those who are angry at star Brie Larson.

The movie review site has removed users' ability to leave reviews or to indicate they are not interested in seeing a film [EDIT: before it comes out].

I'm unsure where you're coming from, or how it is relevant. I don't see how the companies and Brie Larson have hoisted themselves upon their own petard. Treat all the bigoted comments equally?

No. The entirety of the complaint has nothing to do with the substance of the movie, and everything to do with forcing the application of politics onto movies. There are no valid criticisms or complaints beyond the Alt-right and the "red pill" assholes going after a movie they perceive to be "Left", "Liberal", or "CTRL-LEFT". The idea that women can make a superhero movie, starring women, apparently bothers this small section of snowflakes so much they need to forcibly insert themselves into the conversation. They rail because these group of people dared to not pander to their demographic, and these snowflakes cannot accept that another demographic, that they're at war with, gets a movie stolen from them. They wish to continue to dominate movies and television in much like it was done in the 60s where Bruce Lee was relegated to a side-kick and a white guy was the super hero. Is it a problem having a white guy in this role? No. Likewise, it shouldn't be a problem that Bruce Lee occupied the role, but it was, and this is no different of a situation today. You have people complaining simply because the roles are being occupied with women, and the overall substance of that complaint is a perceived forcing of SJW/Liberal agendas upon them.

Let's call this what it really is; A protest. It's not constructive criticism, or valid criticism of the super hero universe, but a movie being used as a vehicle to for one group of people to attack another group of people. So these child-men get onto the Internet, and much like a protest, their goal is to disrupt the original point of the whole affair. That being to provide reviews. It's not possible to review a movie before you have seen it, so instead of a review, we get the brunt of their politics and worldview expressed by grunting angry apes. These are not constructive reviews that are valid, and an actual review by any party, is precluded by simple logic and temporal mechanics.

Whereas you wish to treat them with respect and examine all ideas equally, I wish to tell them to fuck off and find another appropriate venue to espouse their politics and worldview. To put it another way, the grocery store is not the place to subject people to loud expressions of politics, and likewise, a movie review site isn't either. Pressing a button to say you don't wish to see the movie, even though it hasn't been released, seems valid to me. However, we both know that the vast majority of the people saying they don't want to are doing so because of political views. Not cinematic complaints like they didn't use real film, or the actors are historically terrible, or pedantic comic book canon was violated, etc. Just their problem with a perceived Liberal bias in the people involved in the said movies.

I would want the 50,000 "not going to see" presses broken down by some extra metrics. Additional questions like "You don't want to see this movie because of A) Politics, B) Religion, C) Culturally offensive, D) Cinematic objections, or E) Seems lame or uninteresting". If we applied that, we both know how many would've been A instead of E. Personally, the only presses I'm interested are E. I don't give a flat fuck about knowing how the Mormons or Quakers feel about a movie. You know where that is appropriate? A movie review site entirely for Mormons or Quakers.

So if the White Nationalists want to emulate 4-Chan and poison stats, let them do it on their own fucking websites. Except that's not the point of their behavior, which is to heavily disrupt everyone else's spaces to scream like angry monkeys throwing poo. If you did give these man-children the choice to say it's because of "Libtard politics and I want to own the libs", they wouldn't have the courage to check the box because that would mean we could filter out their responses. We both know THAT is what is really pissing them off and causing complaints of "de-platforming", because we are getting better at filtering out their hate filled bullshit.

It's about as useful as listening to some dumb cunt trying to establish a boycott against the Girl Scouts because AOC was involved in the organization. Just like the Girl Scouts don't have anything to do with Progressive or Left politics, this super hero movie has even less to do with it. I'll stand corrected if I watch the movie and it's one long propaganda film for Left or Liberal politics, but I'm expecting, you know, a fucking movie.
