Roy Schestowitz notes that for the first time in nearly a year, Groklaw has come back to life with the posting of an item in its "Latest News Picks" section noting the UK's adoption of OpenDocument Format.
Roy also points out a further news link to the US Patent Office's increased scrutiny of software patents of late and says:
No wonder Groklaw is eager to say something and perhaps come back for good. It will hopefully return to covering FOSS issues, such as the IRS assault on FOSS, patents against Android (China revealed Microsoft's patents and Microsoft's booster Richard Waters reveals that Qualcomm too might be affected), among many other issues that never received an extensive legal coverage.

Groklaw has been missed, as much for the content as Pam's writing. I hope she's back for good, and a regular side bar here. The shutdown may have been a little over-done in the drama department, but I don't care. She did what she thought she had to do, and I'm glad she's back.

Are you kidding me? PJ is a total whackadoodle, right up there with old Twitter from /. on the nutbar scale! When she tried to claim that Psystar (the fly by night company selling Apple clones) was secretly a plot by MSFT to undermine FOSS? I'm sorry but she should have been medicated back then!
I'd say the only positive thing about what we learned from Snowden was spooking PJ off the Internet, so c'mon NSA, help us out, spook her again...pretty please? Hell the only thing she ever did of note was covering the SCO case and that was...what? 9 years ago? And even then it got to the point she was screaming shills, trolls, vampires [tmrepository.com] at everyone who didn't buy into her ever widening conspiracy theory.
ACs are never seen so don't bother. Always ready to show SJWs for the racists they are.

pj shut down when she felt she could no longer provide her informants with anonymity. unfortunately this has not changed. without a secure way to provide on the since coverage for cases either you eventually end up with exposed contacts (who could then be taken or co-opted)
I sorely miss the coverage Groklaw provided on these cases. and i would have preferred to have her and the team covering the recent US court cases involving copyrights.
that's one of the reasons I send in as many patent and copyright articles as I have; the coverage and the discussion need to continue.

There would be a huge value to the community if anyone could provide a means to provide secure communications between Groklaw, (and other sites) and informants who would like to remain Anonymous. This alone is going to be very difficult to do since the feds seem very keen to be sure to have the backdoor and all the keys.
Anyone could try to pick up the mantle, but you have a impossibly high standard to match the quality of the original. and all of the same risks.
I'm sure we can do SOME of the what Groklaw provided here on Soylent; that is provide a forum for discussion of the cases - but we do not have legal expertise; or on the ground reporters / informants that pj and crew had acquired over the years they were active.
