Researchers propose a new approach for dismantling online hate networks

How do you get rid of hate speech on social platforms? Until now, companies have generally tried two approaches. One is to ban individual users who are caught posting abuse; the other is to ban the large pages and groups where people who practice hate speech organize and promote their noxious views.

But what if this approach is counterproductive? That's the argument in an intriguing new paper out today in Nature from Neil Johnson, a professor of physics at George Washington University, and researchers at GW and the University of Miami. The paper, "Hidden resilience and adaptive dynamics of the global online hate ecology," explores how hate groups organize on Facebook and Russian social network VKontakte — and how they resurrect themselves after platforms ban them.

As Noemi Derzsy writes in her summary in Nature:

Johnson et al. show that online hate groups are organized in highly resilient clusters. The users in these clusters are not geographically localized, but are globally interconnected by 'highways' that facilitate the spread of online hate across different countries, continents and languages. When these clusters are attacked — for example, when hate groups are removed by social-media platform administrators (Fig. 1) — the clusters rapidly rewire and repair themselves, and strong bonds are made between clusters, formed by users shared between them, analogous to covalent chemical bonds. In some cases, two or more small clusters can even merge to form a large cluster, in a process the authors liken to the fusion of two atomic nuclei. Using their mathematical model, the authors demonstrated that banning hate content on a single platform aggravates online hate ecosystems and promotes the creation of clusters that are not detectable by platform policing (which the authors call 'dark pools'), where hate content can thrive unchecked.

[...] The researchers advocate a four-step approach to reduce the influence of hate networks.

  1. Identify smaller, more isolated clusters of hate speech and ban those users instead.
  2. Instead of wiping out entire small clusters, ban small samples from each cluster at random. This would theoretically weaken the cluster over time without inflaming the entire hive.
  3. Recruit users opposed to hate speech to engage with members of the larger hate clusters directly. (The authors explain: "In our data, some white supremacists call for a unified Europe under a Hitler-like regime, and others oppose a united Europe. Similar in-fighting exists between hate-clusters of the KKK movement. Adding a third population in a pre-engineered format then allows the hate-cluster extinction time to be manipulated globally.)
  4. Identify hate groups with competing views and pit them against one another, in an effort to sow doubt in the minds of participants.

Get this through your skull SN, you have 116 comments here and not a single one of you has mentioned that actual police and military personel from all kinds of countries but especially the usa, israel, russia and china, are actively infiltrating and pretending to be real people as well as anons. There are published public pdf's about this stuff, it's an open secret. You have to adapt to this information, you can't run around on the internet anymore like la la la. There are actual fake people here even on SN trying to get you to go on record as this or that, trying to stir shiz, trying to obfuscate any clear discussion.

Sure there are loons and fanatical racists, but in my considerable experience where I really tried to figure out what was behind some or another online figure or persona, it turned out looking very not-real. I am having an argument right now with someone on SN that doesn't seem real to me, like someone is just trying to argue until I overstate something they can use against me.

As soon as you make a free speech platform, the government of these nutso totalitarian governments arguing with each other, is going to come and ruin it, because any source of direct human->internet honesty is a threat to what we consider modern government itself.

So basically all 116 comments so far here are hopelessly naive, the next gen of humans/computers has to find a way to compensate for this, which is also why I don't think an anon movement is going to be able to really accomplish anything major. mkultra, a real program, is about how the government picks out people who are on the edge of society and pushes them towards some atrocity against civilians that will have a political effect. I find it a lot easier to believe that at this point than that hundreds of americans are deciding to commit one-off militia actions that have absolutely no political effect other than to push more people to abandon the concept of an armed population.

We are dealing with a totalitarian system, it wants all control. It will shut down any voice that is not part of its agenda. It will simulate any crime, it will pollute any other source of potential truth besides its centralized sources(the same ones that let epstein get away with it for twenty years and still are) Notice how CNN and Fox forums seem to be totally immune to this issue of manifestos? And it will help cover up any elite crime as we have seen. This threatens everyone on planet earth.

My solution(and I have been writing about this since at least 2002):

    globaldebate.net

    Also, decultification.org and myfriendsandi.org.

We have to make a debate site that is resilient to state infiltration, otherwise thet internet is lost. I am sorry to be overdramatic, but I can't see it any other way.

Do you really think 8chan got *mentioned* for the first time and attacked by the entire *mainstream* media right at the same time as the epstein arrest/fakedeasth/escape?

C'mon. We need a debate site where everyone can argue everything, it's just words man. Any resistance to this idea is literally like someone trying to force us to stay in the stone age when we already have steel and lasers, so they can more easily kick us in the nuts and blame us for it.
