"The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text."

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Though, quite interesting to find out:

To me, the religious parallels have always been obvious," Rowling said. "But I never wanted to talk too openly about it because I thought it might show people who just wanted the story where we were going."

It's quite possible, it runs similar to C.S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia" series, but one major difference is that the heroes/heroines weren't wizards/witches. While, there was definitely magic in the Chronicles of Narnia, the children weren't the ones wielding said power. In great contrast to Harry Potter, where the main child hero and his friends are all witches/wizards in training.

How isn't the anthropomorphization of Jesus into a talking lion blasphemy, anyway?

Never met Jesus myself. Maybe he is a lion now. Certainly no more a blasphemy than assuming God is some sort of cosmic babysitter.

If religious symbolism that doesn't fit you exact narrative is satanic, you'd better be prepared to eschew all of these: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MessianicArchetype [tvtropes.org] and that's just for starters.

Can you explain to me where evil came from in the first place? I don't mean so much its chronological starting point as its ontological roots: what is it that allows evil to exist?

what is it that allows evil to exist?

Depends on the type of "evil" you're talking about.

If you're talking about the "evil" in Man's heart that makes them rob and kill anyone they think they can get away with it, there is no stopping that type of "evil" as long as Man walks the Earth.

If you're talking about the "evil" as defined in religion, that manifests itself in what is commonly portrayed as the Devil, that is allowed to exist by the delusions of those suffering the effects of religion.
