Just remember that many of us are "color blind". That's the term most used, but of course, very few of us are actually blind to color.
This red is unappealing to me. I suppose that blue and gray scale are about the most appealing, to most of us who don't have poor color vision. That said, the current setup isn't really bad - simply unappealing.
The desktop themes that look best to me are browns and earthtones, and usually have names that include the word "dark". The theme of my Mate desktop right now, is 'Equinox Evolution Dusk'. Hmmm - now that I've looked, I may just switch over to BlackMATE - the colors look a little crisper.
Whatever you do, DO NOT go to a butt-ton load of red colors. Pink, violet, lavender will simple be lost to us without good color vision.
