Windows 10X Details Leak, Confirm Laptop Support
A new leak confirms that Windows 10X will be coming to laptops and other traditional PC form factors. The leak also shows a more refined version of the system's Chrome OS-like user interface that Brad and I, and others, had seen in the past.
The leak comes courtesy of The Walking Cat on Twitter, who discovered a public-facing Azure website for the coming system. It was quickly taken down by Microsoft, but not before a few enthusiast websites took a peek.

Not if I have anything to say about it. I am nearly 2400 years old, and the last time I had a computer with Windows on it was Win95, which was a steaming pile, truth be told. When Micro$oft stole yet another operating system, in this case a reverse engineering of the VMS operating system [ycombinator.com], I could no longer be part of the criminality. Kind of like being a Republican, until Bush,or Trump, or Trump/Bush (Bolton). But now, now we see the violence inherent in the system. No windows. I was kind of active on some "hacker" boards, when XP was approaching end of life. Got a "leaked" copy of Longhorn, which was the supposed successor to XP. Longhorn actually became my daily driver for awhile. It was just XP, improved in a lot of ways. A bit more stable, a bit faster maybe. Basically, it was just XP with a lot of cruft flushed down the shitter. No real "features", no hint of the sissy-ass Aero desktop, nothing really new or extra.
Then, Vista came on the scene. THAT was an utter abortion, in many ways.
No one should believe that any "leaked" version of anything from Microsoft is representative of the next official release.

It's also just further proof that all Windows users are nothing more than guinea pigs in the multi-year wankfest that a bunch of hipsters at MS have turned the UI into. Let's see, it's October, we'll go pastel... lots of empty space... incomprehensible non-discoverable UI. Oh wait, nearly November, need to do a "UI refresh". What can we do this time? Jim, any ideas? Everything in subtle shades of sepia, with squared-off... no wait, we did that last month, rounded corners? Anyone got anything against two-handed gestures to do most things, haven't tried that one yet. Or should we save that for the December UI rehash?
No, you didn't. You ignored your past and let a bunch of hipster wankers take over, and they've been running the asylum for the past seven years.

What I've been able to find about Windows 10X is that it's a way of bringing Windows 10 technology to devices that aren't suited to the full Windows 10 interface. Unlike Windows CE, Windows Phone, or Windows 10 S, all of which were focused on Windows branding but featured gimped, useless technology, Microsoft *might* have finally learned their lesson and realized that Windows is all about software compatibility, not branding, and that what is actually needed is a way to bring that software to other formats.
So if it looks like a tablet interface, that's because it *is* a tablet interface. But Microsoft isn't going to make you use it on your desktop, or your full size laptop. Hopefully on Surface they'll allow some flexibility, because the best thing about the Surface is that it runs a real operating system.

Windows 7 seems like they'd taken everything they'd learned up to that point and just made as good of an operating system as they could.
Windows 10 seems like where the MBAs took over and decided to monetize everything. Seriously, what kind of Operating System should be auto-downloading bloatware like Candy Crush Saga while you're first setting up the computer? So long as they don't go subscription based and my game "just work", I'll be stuck with them for the foreseeable future. It's awesome that Steam works on Linux, but the main issue isn't whether the Platform work on Linux. It's what system the games are designed for. Sure cross-platform is a thing, but it takes extra time and effort to support all those platforms. Each one will have their own unique issues and that costs money to fix. So, in the meantime, I'm stuck with Win10. I could jump ship anytime, but for now I'm not put out enough to go through the extra effort to make Linux work for me.
