Can't we just stay here? The other options all seem horrible.

Star Trek, which one or is it the "classic" one then? It might depend where you live tho -- along the border with the Klingons or Romulans or you know anyone that seem hellbent on killing humans. Pass.

Star Wars. So living where there is currently an intergalactic civil war going on, or uprising or something. Seems the "normal" people in Star Wars are living in more or less indentured servitude. There doesn't seem to be a prosperous middle class. Even if it's after or before there doesn't seem to be a very nice place, even for a galaxy far far away.

Babylon5. A giant space tube filled with weird aliens, that is getting attacked every week by someone or something.

Idiocracy. Sometimes it feels like we are already there ...

Dark City. Something stuck in eternal night, ruled by strange beings that try to mindfuck or experiment on you every night or did we find the door to Shell beach? Which may or may not even be better.

Babylon 5: you don't have to live in the giant space tube. You could live on a nice planet somewhere. Like Minbar, where everything is peaceful, plentiful, and there could be no possible conflict or differing opinions.

Missing option: The world of Soylent Green.

Oh, great, so now I'm likely to be murdered by Centauri, Shadows, or Vorlons as part of some intergalactic war I had nothing to do with really, or driven from my home and killed walking to the next city by the Minbari warrior caste in a civil war.

In general, I think the question assumes that the future will be better than the present, when a lot of good sci-fi does not make that assumption.

Notice that my sentence about Minbar did NOT have any <no-sarcasm> tags.

I voted B5 because of the cool little star-fighter things. Imagine a world rendered by a cluster of Amigas!

Babylon 5 space is way more colorful than other Sci Fi space.

Of course, if you were close enough to see all that colored visible light, you would probably be dead from radiation.

Why is it so undesirable to live near a border with Klingons or Romulans? How is it more dangerous than living near sand niggers? The Romulans killed thousands of people in the Tomed Incident, though beta canon indicates that it was a false flag operation by the Federation to create an excuse to limit the ability of Romulans to arm themselves for war. Therefore, it's not altogether clear that Romulan attacks have actually ever resulted in loss of life on that scale. However, sand niggers killed thousands of people on 9/11. Ongoing conflicts between different groups of sand niggers and ragheads have killed tens of thousands in the Middle East. Yet people still seem willing to live near dune coons. How exactly is it more dangerous to live near Klingons and Romulans than it is to live near sand niggers?
