Even as we speak, Soylentils are clicking on the aristarchus journal, to the exclusion of the fustulakrackovich Flea circus. But then, neither of these get on the front page, although that honor is of less and less significance, as the number of comments on the average front page FA is FU. I do not put things into journals, unless, as is the case now, the Eds force the issue. We need to discuss the alt-right on the front page. We have sympathizers, at least, in the Deep SoylentNews. I await the messages from the Q_Soylentil, working for justice from within.

Let me explain, and I will be sure to use small words so you understand.

Journals are not indexed as SoylentNews. Rejected submissions fall off the horizon, and are no longer scanned as being part of SoylentNews. Soylentils, and other internet deziens, have no way to find or access rejected submissions, once they are rejected. Thus the lowly aristarchus is posting links to all these rejected submissions, which makes them available, at least to Soylentils. This is the censorship of which we speak. It is subtle, it is insidous, it is effective. #FreeAristarchus, he is on our side.

I'm a different AC, but I am Catholic. I disagree with parts of the article.

It's true that the religious right is strongly linked with white supremacy. Catholicism, however, was not linked with white supremacy, though the alt-right is now taking over the Catholic Church in the United States.

One form antisemitism takes is questioning whether Jews in the United States are loyal to this country or if they're actually loyal to Israel first. The same sentiment was expressed about President Kennedy, questioning whether he would be loyal to the Pope rather than to the United States. I'm not convinced that the bigotry against Catholics is truly gone. I think the religious right has found it advantageous to try to get the Catholic vote, but the underlying bigotry remains.

I've talked to far too many Protestants, even mainline Protestants, who believe that Catholics aren't really Christians and actually worship Mary and the Saints. They are taught other falsehoods like the idea that Catholics believe salvation comes from works rather than faith. Then there's the incorrect statement that Catholics believe the Pope is infallible. There are many other examples of falsehoods that are spread about Catholicism, but these are some of the common forms of misinformation about Catholicism. From what I can tell, there's still plenty of anti-Catholic bigotry. It's just hushed because of the need to get Catholic voters to go along with the religious right.

I almost get the impression that you believe "Protestants" to be some monolithic body of people with the same beliefs. Surely, you realize that isn't so?

For starters, Mormons aren't true Christians. Nor are the Latter Day Saints people. Or Jehovah's witnesses. Or, for that matter, ANY sect that started out claiming some link to the 144,000 referenced in the Bible. Each and every one of them are heretics.

Then, the crazies with the snakes, and talking in tongues. That stuff ain't Christian either.

Those are just the most obvious non-Christian heretical sects. We could dive deeper into baptisms - the heretics believe all you need do is sprinkle a few drops on somebody's head. John the Baptist actually dunked people's asses - and heads - into flowing water, a little sprinkle don't cut it.

Communion? Some supposedly Christian sects don't do it. Few actually use wine. And, they all rely on some kind of magic to transform crackers into the flesh of Jesus. Oh, wait, so do you Catholics.

To summarize, Protestants hate each other more than they might hate you silly Catholics.

once again you have exhibited your ignorance and lack of education.

Saying something doesn't make it so. It's that blindness that afflicts so many people around here.

And really, while more education can make you somewhat less ignorant, it can never eliminate ignorance. Only by doing and saying nothing can you avoid exhibiting your ignorance. I choose not to go that route. As do you.

Though logic is common, yet many live as if they had a knowledge of their own.

They do. First, logic isn't anti-knowledge so it being common doesn't preclude people from having knowledge of their own. Second, it doesn't take much observation to see that people do have knowledge, though it generally is effective for much less intellectual tasks than philosophy. Some of that knowledge is even instinctual, baked into our brains from birth, such as our ability to resolve our senses and facility with language.

So, read any good blogs lately, khallow?

Nahhh, you're being goofy. I'll shoot a white guy just as quick as a black, brown, sandy-tan, or whatever. And, I'll shoot a Christian, just as quick as I'll shoot a Muslim or an atheist. It's not the color or the religion that will get you shot, it's the actions. McVeigh, for instance, was nominally white and Christian. He killed a bunch of people, including some little kids. I happened to be passing by Terre Haute on the night they shot him full of lethal drugs, which is the closest I've ever been to an execution. I can't even speak good of him for his military service. So - what were you looking for again? Oh - you wanted me to defend right wing terrorists? I am pleased to disappoint you!

So, how 'bout you? Are you going to defend the left wing terrorists who believe it's just fine to execute little black babies and little white babies, before they ever get to draw their first breath? Gotta kill off all the honkies and all the negroes, to make more room for brown-ass immigrants, right?

Aww you fascists just gotta fasc. You are outed so easily by how angry you get about someone posting about rightwing terrorism. If you weren't a rightwing terrorist sympathizer then you would just ignore this stuff. The articles are real, the problem is real, so why do you get so upset?

The answer is clear, but you don't want to face that reality, you just want to be able to hide behind excuses and pretend your fascist bigotry is anything but. Truly sad, though I must admit I have a hard time working up much sympathy for you.

"We are ruled by a prime minister who has a history of racism and bigotry and who – quite unlike previous Conservative leaders – is idolised by far-right figures and movements, trashing the demarcation between centre-right and what lies beyond. Our national broadcaster uncritically pumping out racist rants is just another legitimisation of such bigotry. If we remain silent, the dial will shift further – and we may find that such beliefs become even more mainstream than they already are."

The UK is run by a leftist now. He isn't even moderate. Previously, the UK was run by the far left, so this is a small improvement.

Clearly, there are people who think that false allegations of fascism will turn people against less-leftist leaders. Wrong! All that does is change the definition of the word "fascism". It will now refer to better government, as supported by the reasonable people of the nation.

We can dream of a future in which the UK doesn't deny the right to free speech or the right to self defense. Sadly, a more realistic long-term path is toward an Islamic dictatorship. Mistakes were made, as we can see by the changing demographics. It will be entertaining to have islamists with nuclear weapons.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

The review of Marantz's Antisocial is rather good. Since hardly any Soylentils will manage to actually read it, due to continuing repression and censorship, here are some clippings:

Reading Antisocial is likely to either make you glad you’re not on social media, or wish you weren’t. But the old advice – “Don’t feed the trolls; ignore them and they’ll go away” – now seems like recklessly wishful thinking. When a dismissive colleague asks Marantz “Is anyone surprised that there’s awful stuff on the internet?”, he replies: “Everything is the internet now, and the awful stuff might be winning.” Running like a mantra through the book is an aphorism inspired by the philosopher Richard Rorty: “To change how we talk is to change who we are.”

Who changed the way we talk? Antisocial charts the death of the Silicon Valley dream of better living through communication. Committed to free speech (and to avoiding the cost of policing content), tech companies have been slow to accept responsibility for what appears on their platforms. Although Charlottesville shocked Twitter and Reddit into evicting some of the worst offenders, Facebook groups and YouTube’s recommendation algorithms continue to take users to some very dark places. It’s not just a social media problem. The white nationalist Richard Spencer coined the phrase “alternative right” while working for the online magazine of Spectator columnist Taki Theodoracopulos in 2008. Mainstream outlets have since given the likes of Spencer credulous exposure, founded on the misconception that a white supremacist with a crisp haircut and basic social skills is newsworthy.

    Marantz doesn’t make that mistake.

I like how he quotes Rorty!

While repurposing material from his New Yorker profiles, he uses digressions and footnotes to craft a metanarrative about the role of journalism in general and his own reporting in particular. Is he giving these narcissists and nihilists too much attention or not enough? He errs on the side of “know your enemy” but understands that he cannot win. Trolls set “an ingenious trap”, he writes. “By responding to their provocations, you amplify their message. And yet, if no one ever rebuked the trolls, they would run the internet, and perhaps the world.”

Thus the dilemma for we philosophers of the future, as Nietzsche calls us. But as Heraclitus said, "Ἐδιζησάμην ἐμεωυτόν".

Only because we don't stop feeding the trolls. Personally, I don't find trolls to be that much of a problem that I'd write a book about it, but I guess YMMV.
