The United States has conducted an airstrike against the Taliban in Afghanistan after President Donald Trump boasted he secured peace with the group.
Military officials confirmed on Wednesday the airstrike was to interrupt a planned attack on a checkpoint run by the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF).
The strike was from a drone, according to military officials.

You can't build a nation without changing the culture, and we weren't going to do that. Squeamish voters don't like the body count, penny pinching voters don't want to spend the money, and traitor voters don't even accept the superiority of our own civilization. We would probably need to run the place like North Korea for 70 years in order to wipe out the Islam and tribal languages.
We got our revenge. We're done. We still have bombs though, and we like using them.
The "peace deal" is just a way to show our own voters and the rest of the world that we gave a good-faith effort. We knew they wouldn't comply. It is literally in their religion to make dishonest peace deals with non-Muslims. Muslims are supposed to make peace deals in order to buy time for preparing for battle. With that, no genuine lasting peace will ever be possible unless they are all dead.
The fight between Islam and the entire rest of the world will go on until one side is dead. Probably that will be the west, due to infiltration and attack from within. Unfortunately it is normal for Muslims to declare each other to be non-Muslim over some minor disagreement, so the violence would continue. The only hope, rather slim at this point, is that somebody with balls wins a total war against Islam. Killing over a billion people is no small task, even with automated killer drones.

Okay, it makes for a funny headline. The sad fact of the matter though is that fighting pretty much always continues after peace is declared. Not everyone visits https://amiatwarwith.org/?faction1=foo&faction2=bar [amiatwarwith.org] right before running a planned attack. Sure, it's quick nowadays but it could take months back when they had to send someone back and forth to headquarters with hand-written TCP packets.

The original ceasefire was between the U.S. and Taliban for 1 week. It allowed the U.S. and the Taliban to negotiate the terms of peace talks later. They reached an agreement for those talks. The problem is that the U.S. made concessions they couldn't keep without the cooperation of the current Afghanistan government, and then tried to force them to comply. The current Afghanistan government said "no" because they got no benefit and all the downside. So a few days later the ceasefire ended. It's not really a surprise for hostilities to start up when there isn't any ceasefire or prospect of peace talks until the Afghanistan election is sorted out.
