How much money do you stand to make on hydroxyetc working? If you have any investment in pharma, you are going to make big bucks. You might even be lucky like Trump to make almost $200 on the stock increase.
The media has been pushing the Brazil study as proof that hydroxy doesn't work, yet they didn't use that. They used chloroquine at DOUBLE the dose that is being tested in the US. The 12 day dose of 200mg twice a day of Hydroxy is extremely low risk, it is ZERO risk if you have EKG during the process to check for underlying heart issues, particularly arrhythmia.
https://www.dw.com/en/chloroquine-is-ineffective-and-dangerous/a-53188219 [dw.com]
So patients started noticing arrhythmia noticed issues in two to three days on the high dose, if issues showed up before a dose was given on day two they already have had 1200mg and if on day three 2400mg. Deaths occurred after 6000mg (if before dose given on that 11th day). Chloroquine is more toxic than the Hydroxy which is interesting to note, so the dosage comparisons are a little off, the Brazil being more than twice as dangerous just off raw dosage but not taking the difference in drug toxicity into account.
A patient in the US would receive a total of 2100 mg across the ENTIRE treatment. In the US the heart condition is also checked so people with risk of heart complications to reduce the risk of adverse reactions.

That is downright scary.
I'm sure if you do the traditional "follow-the-money", there will be good reasons that Fox was recklessly pushing for a run on Hydroxychloroquine sales, despite the fact that there was as yet no actual indication that it had any actual benefit. No the simple and accurate reason for this is because both parties, the media, and others have gradually been working to destroy critical thinking in Americans.
Another example of this was with the 'official recommendation' that healthy people need not wear masks. That was ridiculous and clearly poor advice probably geared towards trying to maintain control of mask supplies. But people bought it up, because they no longer think. Masks don't work to prevent 100% of viral size particles (or anywhere near that) but they do provide much more than 0 protection. And similarly we've known about asymptomatic carriers since about 2 months into this pandemic, and so people wearing masks also helps work as a protective for others by also reducing the particulate emissions of asymptomatic carriers.
People need to start thinking for themselves. Everybody realizes this when its 'the other side' making dubious recommendations, but then line up like sheep when its their anointed ones making said dubious recommendations.

We used to have the fairness doctrine which forced media to provide a platform for contrasting opinions. The repeal of that has led to easy misinformation campaigns where so much bullshit is thrown at the wall it sometimes overwhelms the truth.
Back to the masks, the main component is prevent breaths, coughs, and sneezes from spreading out for 5-20 feet from infected persons. Wetting the mask also helps increase capture of virus particles when inhaling a tiny bit.
(Score: 0) by Anonymous Coward on Friday April 24 2020, @06:16PM
What you're saying is true, with a nuance. It's not just the defensive mechanism. Masks really do do a surprisingly good job of stopping particulate matter. This [bmj.com] paper is highly relevant. That paper tested particulate sizes all the way down to 0.007 microns with the most common particles being around 0.1 micron! The current coronavirus particles are from 0.05 - 0.2 microns in size.
But the most important point also here is that those tests were about pollution and so the 'low' volume study was a 30 minute test at a flow rate of 40L/min! You'd only get that sort of exposure if you were in a tiny room surrounded only by infected folks all running on a treadmill and breathing out at you from about 2 feet away. In practice, flow rates are obviously a minuscule fraction of that and the masks effectiveness increased the lower the flow rates. The long and short of that is that the masks do provide significant protection. It's not perfect of course, but it is *way* better than nothing.
Incidentally it's the same thing with pollution in general. Many people think that if e.g. you're concerned about PM2.5 (2.5micron) then you need a mask with a comparable or smaller diameter. In practice that is not true. Better masks obviously work better, but anything works *much* better than nothing. There is also the current 'viral load hypothesis' related to this virus suggesting that there may indeed be a difference in outcome depending on your exact exposure level. Doesn't sound so shocking of course, but I think we all kind of intuitively view these things in binary.

Sorry, that link is rather lame, written by someone who does NOT know what leadership is. The author thinks that a leader is a "nice guy" or some such shit.
The US Navy and Princeton have developed an in depth course, titled "Leadership and Management Effectiveness Training". The course begins at mid-level petty officer ranks, and goes up to university levels that officers are required to attend. I believe that jointly, they have come up with the best working definition of leadership, ever.
Leadership is the art of motivating people to do that which they should do anyway.
There is nothing about "nice guys" anywhere in the course. In fact, many leaders are sons of bitches, that you don't even want to know. If you want, or need, nice guys, you may find them among the ranks of leaders, but don't count on it. Being a leader doesn't preclude you being a nice guy, of course - some are the nicest people you could ever hope to meet.
That said, we haven't had a leader in the White House in a long, long time. We haven't had many leaders in congress, or in the Senate, either.
I will give you that Obama does have some leadership traits. More than Trump, and maybe more than Bush, but he wouldn't be recognized as a leader by LMET students.
Want to know what a REAL leader would do with the presidency? Want to know what a bunch of REAL leaders would do in the Senate and in congress? They would unite America. They might even go so far as to unite the US and much of the world.
The bunch of grab-ass fuckwads we have had for the past several administrations have done nothing more successfully than to DIVIDE America. Identity politics is the best that the supposedly "liberal" party can give us?
Somehow, I would have expected you know what leadership really is. It sure ain't The Feelz.
Military leaders can gather together a thousand people who hate and loathe each other, and weld them into a cohesive unit with a common mission. You show me a president, a congressman, or a senator in recent times who can claim to have done such a thing.

Without knowing more about LMET, the only comment that I will make is that while it may be effective for military use, it may not be suitable for civilian application.

No confusion, khallow. There is as yet no cure. So mitigation is all there is, and you are arguing in bad faith again, intentionally misinterpreting the arguments of others. Or are you just not intelligent enough to understand them? So what are you, khallow? Bad faith, or stupid? Fess up!

Your insistence on redefining words profiteth you naught, khallow. Better than you should just spout off "obvious rebuttal", and retreat with you tail between your legs. You are defending an old man who heard that disinfectants kill a virus on surfaces, and then in a demented old man way, opined "well,if only we could do that inside the body", a "kind of a cleansing", all of which proves that he was not firing on any cylinders, intellectually speaking. He is an idiot, a el stupido, and really small handed guy to be handling a pandemic. And you do not understand what I was saying, and you go with with the mendacious Tu Mendacio Buzzario interprets what I said? How stupid are you, khallow? Some times you seem to be slightly intelligent, but this is not one of those times. Are you being intentionally dense, or strategically stupid? We all know you do not want to be seen as explicity supporting Trump, but you know, after he gets done being all Precedent, he will be super, super, rich. One of his daughters, the less favorite one, is not married, yet? Khallow, you have a shot, you slithering slime ball of a wealth toady. Until then, fornax you, and your dated and illogical ideology. Rand Paul has AIDS, you know. Or was it just Covid-19 after a nastly bout of "blowing grass trimmings onto a neighbor's property? This is why I have no more libertariantard neighbors, I shot them, and the rest of the neighborhood cheered. Khallow? Care to respond? You cretin!

Why are you still posting about that? You already admitted [soylentnews.org] TMB was right and what your real intent was. Game over man.
Thus, there was some smarm at your expense, Buttercup, and a bit of needless drama. All I see here are the deserved fruits of not thinking before you (and perhaps your AC sockpuppets) write.

Read my post again, Buttercup. No such thing happened. I was replying to an aristarchus post and quoting another aristarchus post. That was all aristarchus. As to the AC sockpuppet thing, aristarchus really did sockpuppet hard some time ago and continues to post AC from time to time. So it's not a stretch to suppose that he'll do it again.

The obvious Buttercup is, khallow is actually only an aristarchus sockpuppet account. Think about it. The UID number work. No one could possibly be such a suck up to the capitalist class as khallow seems to be. It is almost like khallow is a caricature of a libertarian, so much so that he could not possibly be real. And, you never see them both at the same place at the same time, they both start their handles with lower case, and khallow has a hard sockpuppet. Or at least that is what he calls it.
