Would be nice, if a Soylentil submits a submission, that that Soylentil might be credited with that submission, before some boot-licking scum-sucking lime lizard of a bot, that came across the same thing. Unless we (meaning, Eds) were trying to reduce the aristarchus visability on the the SN at large, in a form of passive aggressive censorship? Tell me it ain't so, Joe, tell me it ain't!
(Again, nessesary reference for uneducated non-boomers: Kid said this to "Shoeless Joe Jackson", after it was alleged that the White Sox had thrown the "World Series" in 1919. )

Tell me it ain't so, bytram! And the ball master TMB? Tell me it ain't so! And also tell me the Precedent did not just tear gas Episcopalian priests, holding a vigil for peace?

Soylent News has be infested, for quite some time, by fascists whom I will not name, and fellow travellers, like janrinok. Now is the time when you will burn, because if you dare to use force against innocent people, or attempt to censor aristarchus, it will come back upon you, big time. #Freearistarchus!!

Upstart can go dis-compile itself.

    • Use the rsstool to harvest sites for fresh pages from sites with good potential. Wrap it in some fancy script(s). (I use gawk for this stage because of its coroutines feature providing good enough paralelism around the rssstool, processing hundreds or thousands of feeds simultaneously.)
    • Grab a candidate page by wget or curl. Without javascript running, they are mostly unpolluted these days.
    • Feed it into some kind of analyzer. Poor men use just regexps, stupid men use simulated neural network on GPU with linear magic which they don't understand, smart men use true expert system written in prolog with a robust parser and a huge database of axioms. (Don't ask me which one I actually use, for it is obvious.)
    • Found a real gem? Check it with surf browser and feed it into SN subs queue directly, bypassing watching IRC bots. (This is what I don't do, for I pity both soylentils and their operatives. I keep all the fun and truth found for myself.)

Everyone could do the same, for himself. Everyone. There is no excuse to not to, except laziness.

Maybe. For some values of "Everyone" that doesn't include me.

Never got the hang of programming and don't have nearly that much time for recreational programming anyway. I've managed to work out the rss feed for several sites and use that to drive my "Feed" page on Pipedot.org Also managed to get a couple of sites to repair their rss feed when it quit (after a site re-design). That's about the limit of what I can do personally.

Have you posted a more detailed tutorial somewhere?
