Canada Post says dog attacks on mail carriers have increased during pandemic:
We have seen an increase this year of incidents across the country," the Crown corporation said in an email to CTVNews.ca.
According to Canada Post, around 41 per cent of households in Canada have dogs. Postal service workers come into contact with pets when they drop off mail, and with everyone at home during the pandemic, the chances of them coming face-to-face with a dog is even greater than usual.
[...] Canada Post is asking homeowners not to open their doors during mail delivery, as this not only can make physical distancing harder, but can allow a dog to rush outside at an unsuspecting mail carrier. They are reminding the public to wait until a postal service worker has left to go pick up the mail or packages left on the doorstep.

Dogs are a plague. They're unpredictable, dangerous. They cause numerous injuries to children each year. Their incessant barking pisses off everyone (except their owners, for some reason) and wakes up entire neighborhoods at night. They jump on skunks, porcupines, repeatedly. They jump in front of cars. They have to be controlled, managed, every single fucking second or they'll invariably hurt themselves or someone else. They jump on you in trails because their owners can't fucking keep them on leash. I personnaly know many neighbors who no longer take walks in the neighborhood because they're afraid some fucking dog will jump on them out of nowhere.
They are genetic abominations. They are 30% less intelligent than their wolf ancestors, and they've been selectively bred to have Stockholm syndrome. Their absolute, unconditional love and devotion to even the most discusting people on this Earth is not something to be admired or commended, it's pathetic. It's bred-in affective dependancy. They are a ruined species.

On top of the dog's bad behavior, it's nearly impossible to get through to the owner about the behavioral problems. There must be countless relationship and marriage breakdowns going on this very moment, all caused by this particular species of pet.
The owners are so 'charmed' by their pet's cuteness that you cannot reason with them. It's like as if the dog has hijacked the bonding instinct we have which was meant to be towards children. And through this the dog can get the owner to do almost whatever it wants. I guess this must have been an evolutionary strategy, the dogs which managed to manipulate humans the best were the ones who reproduced the most.

My parents' old dog used to wait for the postman since they knew what time they came around at. When they got old and deaf, the young dog would dash to the old dog's basket and woof in their ear when they saw a hint of a postman, so that they could stagger to the door and have a bark. I don't think they are scared of the postman, it's more of a daily ritual they've got obsessed about, and we weren't successful in training them out of it. I certainly tried.
