SoylentNews is people

In other totally-not-a-slide-into-fascism news, peaceful protestors who had a permit to march were teargassed on the way to vote.

Peaceful march to the polls in North Carolina is met with police pepper spray and arrests, causing outcry on eve of election

They have elections in all those shithole dictatorial countries too. They just make sure the wrong people don't vote.

The participants in Saturday’s “I Am Change” march had intended to conclude at an early-voting site to emphasize turnout in the final days of the presidential campaign. Those plans were thrown into disarray when law-enforcement officers in riot gear and gas masks insisted demonstrators move off the street and clear county property, despite a permit authorizing their presence.

Was the peaceful march actually peaceful?

I've not yet seen anything that looked un-peaceful, TBH. On the other hand, "fiery but mostly peaceful" has become a thing in the past few months. Almost anything is possible, including the "protesters" being armed with AK-47s and grenade launchers.

And going to vote? I thought election day was tomorrow?

I voted in person last week. Most polling places are open for early voting. The number of people who have already voted already equaled ~2/3 of all votes recorded in 2016 Saturday evening.

Few people want to stand in line for hours on voting day, just to bring home the flu, a cold, covid, and some strange jungle rot.
