Can anyone cite a time in history when people DID NOT have a favorite conspiracy theory? "Slackening grip on reality" the title says. My question is, when has mankind ever had a grip on reality?

Isn't Qanon just a recycled old idea? Whatever happened to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion? Or the Illuminati? And, the Masons - I guess they have been rehabilitated, right?

It’s hard to describe the movement that Philip fell into.

Movement. Humanity has another collective bowel movement, and mankind collectively has to examine the results. Long and round, tapered on the ends. Mostly smooth and brown, with a few chunky bits, and possessing an odor slightly different than recent movements.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_conspiracy_theories [wikipedia.org]

Wikipedia has an incomplete list of older conspiracy theories. Some have more evidence to support them, others have less evidence. Mehhh. Wiki leaves out a lot of older theories, some of which had impacts on history. How 'bout the Sinking of the Maine?

One nice thing about conspiracy theories is, they lend themselves well to the writing of novels.

Have any good novels been written about that whole Russian Collusion with Trump conspiracy theory? How about that Alt-Right conspiracy theory that a certain Soylentil has obsessed over for years now? I guess c0lo is going to jump into the Qanon rabbit hole, and see where it takes him. I won't be surprised if he comes face to face with Aristarchus down there. All those rabbit holes are connected, eventually. Qanon and Alt-right are in the same neighborhood after all.

    What Is the Point?
So why is it that we have conspiracy theories in the first place? Well, there's a few reasons. In an article on Our Great American Heritage, Allen Cornwell explains, "Conspiracies are alternative stories about real events. These stories develop because a part of our society refuses to accept the official explanation."

One might suspect that conspiracy theories satisfy some psychological need of the human animal.

I find it kinda amusing that left/dem/progressive conspiracy theorists don't put their own thories forward, so much as they follow and theorize about those theories that are preoccupying centrist and right wing people. You guys are lacking in originality, aren't you? Come up with your own theories for a change.

Oh, wait. My bad. You HAVE come up with one, haven't you? That whole Critical Race Theory is a progressive conspiracy theory. Everything in history - that is everything - has been built on the black man's back, by evil white people. Sorry, gotta give credit where credit is due - you guys can be creative.

I just realized something. Some of you people are quite young. Over and over again, you make silly statements which imply that an old man like myself has formed his attitudes and opinions, all based on Fox News. You youngsters seem to believe that Fox is some kind of old establishment news source or something.

The Fox News Channel (FNC) is an American basic cable and satellite news television channel that was founded by media mogul Rupert Murdoch in 1996. In 2001 Roger Ailes appointed himself as permanent CEO of this news operation that was created as a Republican-centered alternative to CNN.

Fox is only 24 years old. Did you realize that? And, additionally,

Cable News Network (CNN), an American basic cable and satellite television channel that is owned by the Turner Broadcasting System division of WarnerMedia,[1] was founded in 1980 by Ted Turner and 300 other original employees,[2][3] who invested $20 million into the network.[4] Upon its launch, CNN became the first channel to provide 24-hour television news coverage,[5] and was the first all-news television network in the United States.[6] This article discusses the history of CNN, beginning with the June 1980 launch of the channel.

CNN is only 40 years old.

Me, stupid? If you say so. Then again, I formed my world view before there was a CNN, or a Fox, or even an internet. Each of those, in turn, has influenced my world view, of course. But, some of you younger people never even had to form a world view. Your world views have been spoon fed to you by the likes of CNN and all the rest of main stream media.

Hearing you kids harping on Fox News is similar to - ohhhh - maybe being accused of forming a world view based on Uber press releases. It's just too damned silly to take seriously. The common refrain of "OK, Boomer" makes more sense than all the silly shit about Fox.

Now, would you please get off the lawn?

The overly ego-inflated youngsters don't read Fox news at all. If they did for 4 minutes, they'd realize all the shit they spout about Fox is, well, shit. Great post! Your comments are always spot on!

The left applies the label of 'conspiracy theory' to any uncomfortable truth they wish to censor. I'll provide a dose of truth in this post, but I'm sure I'll just end up at -1, anyway.

America is under attack. Niggers, kikes, wetbacks, towelheads, chinks, japs, dune coons, pakis, curry munchers, gooks, injuns, and all other darkies hate America. They are actively attempting to subvert democracy and destroy the civilized society we have built. I hate all darkies, but only because they hate all of us and our great nation. My hate is strong and I'm damned proud of it. In fact, my hate is getting stronger as I talk to you people. However, I'm not racist and there's nothing racist about my post. The left will try to discredit me by accusing me of being racist and of spreading conspiracy theories. They don't want you to know the truth so they use labels like 'racist' and 'conspiracy theory' to censor those truths.

At least there's hope for America. Joe Biden is on our side and I'm proud to have voted for him. Donald Trump has proved incredibly useless at protecting America from darkies. The courts have repeatedly overturned his travel bans, attempts to build the wall, and detention of the wetback terrorists constantly streaming across the southern border. In 2016, everyone laughed at me when I voted for Hillary Clinton and noted that she would have far more effectively controlled the threat posed by darkies than anything Trump has ever done. That's the same reason I voted for Biden.

I know the left will attack me and claim that Kamala Harris proves that this is a conspiracy theory. They couldn't be more wrong. This is a genius move for Biden. He appointed a nigger and curry muncher to be vice president, a position that has no real power. Darkies are stupid and will believe that Biden is on their side while he will actually crack down on them and the crime and disease they bring into our communities.

Just as you said, the left labels the truth as a 'conspiracy theory' to cover it up and silence everyone who disagrees with them. Great post!
